"Error Updating Podcast"

After updating a few weeks ago, and in the current updates, I am no longer able to update the Savage Love Podcast. Everything seems to go ok as I add it, it appears in the first screen, but when trying to update I get:

org.apache.harmony.xml.ExpatParser$ParseException: At li...

the url for the podcast is:

http://www.thestranger.com/podcasts/savagelove/index.xml

with another mirror at:

http://feeds.thestranger.com/stranger/savage

It seems they both forward to the same page. The feed looks fine in Firefox, and it works in iTunes. I dunno.

Thanks for your help, the app rocks except for this! :)

Illegal character

Episode 112 has an illegal XML character. It looks like a ... but it's not three dots, instead it's one special character representing the three dots. We worked around something like this in the past with other podcasts. We'll see what we can do here.

The problem will resolve itself once that episode rolls off the tail of the 10 episodes that we support, or when we support a configurable number of episodes. In the latter case, you'll be able to configure it to 1 or 2 episodes and the offending episode won't get parsed.

Oh, they snuck in an ellipses. Lame. Looks like for now I'll download them the old fashioned way. And I'll chuck an email at them.

For grins and chuckles, is there any way to have the app ignore the offending character (like recognizing the error and skipping it) and move on to the next set of stuff to parse? I have no experience, so its just an idea. ;)

Like I said before, thanks for being so awesomely accessible.

Ignoring characters

We have some logic to ignore a whole span of illegal characters already, but this character isn't included in this span. I'll try to get this character added to the ones we need to replace.

I'm not sure how other podcatchers handle this, but I imagine it would be the same way. I can see that it would be our responsibility to scrub the feed to make sure it's clean.

I go through a feed and pick

I go through a feed and pick the items I want and which are added to the queue.
Doggcatcher starts trying to download items but if I'm in an area with poor network coverage the download will fail and I get this message.

"DL Failed. Giving up"

The result is that the item is erased from my queue and all the other ones I picked as well. I have to go back to the feed and pick the items all over again, until they finally download.

Doggcatcher should be more tolerant of poor reception and data connectivity. It should keep items in it's queue to try again at another time.

Also thanks for this great information which you're providing on this site. This i was searching on the internet and came across on this page which is really helpful for me. Infect i am student of 642-566 exam certification code which is hard to get achieve, but i am struggling to overcome on that. I had also attained the certification of 642-873 exam code last two months back. On the other hand I am trying to complete my pending thesis of 642-973 exam project which i'm sure will be completed soon. I really enjoyed and gain really wrathful knowledge while my stay.
