File info missing from virtual feed

Is there any reason why virtual feed loses file size info? It just says "unknown". Also, more interesting than file size is the file length -- any reason that couldn't be included next to each file in the virtual feed playlist?

File size

I have been meaning to do this for normal feed where the publisher doesn't publish the file size, but I have been forgetting to create the issue. I just created one - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=480.

The virtual feed file size will come for free once I take care of the file size for items not set by the publisher.

The file length is definitely possible but I'm not sure of the performance implications because I would have to open each audio file in the media player to calculate the size. I'll play around with this and see if it's possible.

Well, my humble suggestion

Well, my humble suggestion would be that upon completion of download that DC could peek at the length of the file. Then if DC could just keep track of the notes it took, all would be well, unless I'm missing something.

Size vs length

I think when you refer to size you are meaning megabytes, kilobytes, etc. And when you refer to length you mean the duration of the audio, like 5:25 (5 mins 25 secs). I can check the size of the file but in order to get the duration the file needs to be loaded into the media player.

Yes, "duration" is the word I

Yes, "duration" is the word I was looking for. I take it that "loaded into the media player" is not something that can be hidden in the background?

It can be hidden

It can be hidden, but it's an expensive operation and you're likely to feel the impact of it when feeds are updating.
