Hello,
the latest update to version 1.2.4153 broke the ability to use an external player. The error message is:
This episode cannot be played:
file:///storage/emulated/0/DoggCatcher/EpisodeEnclosures/path_to_file exposed beyond app through Intent.getData()
I'm using Android 8. Is there a fix for this problem?
Thanks
This seems to only happen on Android N.
The solution is to switch to using "content://" in your code (see https://proandroiddev.com/sharing-files-though-intents-are-you-ready-for... and https://inthecheesefactory.com/blog/how-to-share-access-to-file-with-fil...).
But the devs must do that so we must wait and see.
Yes. Android, Galaxy 6, trying to play video to external player MX player. Streaming to external player works, but once downloaded it doesn't. (This episode cannot be played: file:///storage/ ect.........)
I'm having the same issue with my Pixel XL, Android 8.1.0, external player VLC 3.0.13. Stopped working after the last update. Can still play to the internal player.
Also the app crashes when I try to report the problem and send the log.
I am experiencing this issue as well. It started two updates ago (not the Oct 25 release but the previous one).
External player: MX Player Pro
Device: LG V35 ThinQ
Android 8.0.0

Doggcatcher 1.2.4154
Error:
This episode cannot be played:
file:///storage/emulated/0/DoggCatcher/EpisodeEnclosures/353/twit0689_h264m_1280x720_1872.mp4 exposed beyond app through Intent.getData()
FYI it's still broken after the last update.
The DC dev responded about this issue here http://www.doggcatcher.com/comment/17242#comment-17242 and created a bug issue http://mantis.doggcatcher.com/view.php?id=2258
any update on this getting fixed. The bug tracker makes it seem like 1.2.4150 would fix it but im on 1.2.4154 and playing video to an external player is still broken with the same error. "file:///storage/emulated/0.......mp4 exposed beyond app through Intent.getData()"
Been a while since there was an update to the app. Also see a few post here where people still have this issue. Any updates on a fix?
This issue is still on the to do list and is listed for target version 1.1.4155 of the app, though no guarantee the problem will be fixed on the next release of the app.
