Play list keeps changing to "All - Sorted by feed/date" (Android 8.0.0 issue?)

Version 1.2.4149 under Android 8.0.0
Problem: Under the "Audio" tab, I have a User playlist which I normally keep selected and is composed of a category of feeds. For the last few days (possibly since my upgrade to 8.0.0) the playlist keeps changing to "All - Sorted by feed/date." I'll change it back to my User list, but fairly quickly, but for unknown reasons, the playlist will change back to "All - Sorted by feed/date." My expectation, and the way it worked until recently, was that once I select my User it would stay selected.
This change of selection is annoying because this mean every time a podcast finishes playing, the next podcast from the "All - Sorted by feed/date" list plays instead of my User list.

Playlist Issue

I'm not able to reproduce this problem, it may have something to do with the installation of the app.....first try exiting & restarting the app (DC Navigation Menu>More>Exit) then restart the app from the app draw or DC icon on the home screen.

If the problem persists...try uninstalling/reinstalling the app, but first backup the app (DC Navigation Menu>Settings>Backup/Restore/Export) once the backup is complete-uninstall the app from the home screen, device app settings or play store, then reinstall the app and run restore from DC's settings.

Can reproduce reliably now: BT connect to BMW

Thanks for your suggest WayneC. However the playlist change keeps happening and I finally figured out how to reproduce it reliably. It is happening when my phone connects via Bluetooth to my car stereo, specially my 2014 OEM BMW car stereo (I also have another car with a Sony with Bluetooth and the change of playlist does not happen when connecting to it).

Specifically I see the following behavior: start with the car/stereo off, open Doggcatcher, go to the Audio tab, select my User playlist, start the car, watch Bluetooth connect car to phone, and then watch the selected playlist change by itself. Seems to happen 100% of the time (I have yet to see it not happen now that I'm watching for it).

Thoughts?

BMW Bluetooth Problems

I've read there are Bluetooth issues with BMW vehicles, and this maybe also affecting the app...this is happening on devices running Android 8.0 Oreo, particularly Pixel and Nexus devices. So until this issue is resolved it's going to be difficult to resolve this problem, and the issue you're experiencing can't reproduced on other vehicles.

RE: ZDNet http://www.zdnet.com/article/android-8-0-oreo-google-says-its-looking-in...

However I would still try uninstalling/reinstalling the app, first backup the app (DC Navigation Menu>Settings>Backup/Restore/Export) once the backup is complete-uninstall the app from the home screen, device app settings or play store, then reinstall the app and run restore from DC's settings.

Correction: On Play not on Connect

Wayne - OK. Will just keep updating here.

Correcting my previous post, I see the change of Playlist when the stereo initiates play (unpause if you will). This will happen on BlueTooth connect if the Bluetooth device is selected. If it's not, I don't see the change of playlist. If I pause Doggcatcher via the stereo and then unpause it, or change input from/to BlueTooth, I see the change of playlist.

Uninstalling/reinstalling the app

I contacted Eric (DC Dev) about this issue and he says it maybe possible that a BT connection is triggering the app to start, and then loads the old playlist (because the installation is corrupt and the app can't write the new playlist to configuration) if this is the case....the only way resolve the problem is to uninstall & reinstalling the app.

You haven't said if you have tried this solution or not. If you haven't, please try it and if the problem persists after uninstalling/reinstalling the app...then this confirms the problem is caused by the Android 8.0/Bluetooth issues with BMW vehicles and I imagine will be resolved by the Android developers/BMW engineers soon.....possibly with the next update of the OS

Stay tuned...

I have not tried the reinstall. Will do so later this week - about to go on travel and don't want to break anything right now.

Reinstalled with no change

I did a reinstallation (specifically exported, cleared data, cleared cached, uninstalled, restarted, installed, imported) and see no change in the behavior, the playlist still changes on "play" from the stereo.

This has been driving me nuts too.

I use a Jeep 2012 with Uconnect and the view keeps changing to virtual feeds or whatever it's called. I have to keep changing it back. Please fix!!!!

Car head unit can see playlists...

Warne, I noticed something: My head unit has a "Search Music" function which normally brings up top-level directories on whatever USB device I have attached. If I'm controlling DoggCatcher from the car and I select "Search Music" this brings up my DoggCatcher playlists (see photo at https://photos.app.goo.gl/UsapCDWHyRvCcPp02) and it has some notion of which playlist is active and I can even select a playlist (though it seems unreliable - maybe only works the first time?). So it seems like DoggCatcher is exposing the playlists to my head unit in some way that lets it see and control them.

Still seeing problems with 1.2.4150

I saw a DoggCatcher update last weekend to 1.2.4150, but it didn't change the behavior with regards the playlists in my car that I'm seeing.

Hmmm, seems like something changed

Well, it seems like playlist changing problem has been fixed, but at great expense to other functionality. DoggCatcher no longer seems to be reacting to any events from the head unit - e.g. it doesn't start playing with I select the appropriate input or pause when I change input. Track information seems to be spotty on the head unit as well and sometimes audio stops plays when episodes change.

BTW, I did some debugging and the media press code I was seeing from my head unit in question that seemed to cause the change of playlist is code 128.

Disregard last message, except for the code bit

This part stands: BTW, I did some debugging and the media press code I was seeing from my head unit in question that seemed to cause the change of playlist is code 128.

Ignore the part about something having changed. I figured out it was my phone flaking. No change seen in DoggCatcher since the start of this thread.

Upgrade to Pixel 3 / Android 9 seems to have fixed this

New phone (Pixel 3) running Android 9 and this problem seems to be fixed.

Correction: It's better but not entirely fixed with Pixel 3 / A9

I'm still seeing the playlist change with my Pixel 3 and Android 9 occasionally (~1-2x/month). Seems to happens when I connect to the car, but infrequently.

More information on this

More information on this annoying bug. I have a Pixel 2 XL that I connect to various GM vehicles with Android Auto (2017 Chevy Volt, 2018 Buick Enclave).

Steps to reproduce
1) Play user playlist in DoggCatcher before connecting to car
2) Connect phone to car and launch Android Auto on the head unit (but do not launch DoggCatcher on head unit yet)
3) On the phone, swipe up on Android Auto screen to show phone UI, then launch DoggCatcher so you can see the currently selected user playlist
4) On the car head unit, launch DoggCatcher from the Android Auto UI and watch the DoggCatcher UI on the phone switch from the user playlist to "All - Sorted by feed/date"

Forgot to mention that I have

Forgot to mention that I have Android 9 on my Pixel 2 XL so the bug certainly seems to still exist regardless of Android 8 vs Android 9.

Reproduced with just Android Auto App

I'm able to reproduce on my Pixel 2 Android 9 with Bluetooth turned off and not connected to any vehicle. All I have to do is open the Android Auto app and start playing a podcast and it will switch to sort by Feed/Date. Switching the sort type when in Android Auto will resolve the issue temporarily but the next time the Android Auto app is opened it switches back to Feed/Date

Reproduced with AA also.

It seems like it started with the a version update of AA on my pixel2xl, but I can't be certain. Running Android 9, version of AA is 3.9.585064. It has nothing to do with BT on my phone--used BT only on a rental car last week and never saw it once.

Reproduced with Android Auto - 1.2.4154

As others have stated playing through AA seems to change the selected playlist to "All - Sorted by feed/date".

DETAILS:

Android Auto Version (on phone): 3.9.585064-release
Device: Google Pixel 3 XL
Android Build: PQ1A.190105.004

SUMMARY: Selected playlist being changed when opened in Android Auto

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Start DC
2. Set currently selected playlist to "All - Sorted by date"
3. Open AA on phone, not connected to car or any otherBluetooth device.
4. Open DC from within AA

WHAT HAPPENS: DC shows list of podcasts with selected playlist "All - Sorted by feed/date"
