Very slow/sluggish UI

DETAILS:
DoggCatcher Version: 1.2.4147
Device: OnePlus 3, OxygenOS 3.2.8
Android Build: 6.0.1

Hey there,
I've been using DoggCatcher for a few months, and since that start the UI is extremely sluggish in multiple instances. Few examples:
1. A ~2 sec delay between pressing play/pause/rewind/fast forward and the action taking place.
2. Refreshing the feed (which can happen by accident, just scrolling up) makes the entire device extremely non responsive for about half a minute to a minute (until all feeds have been refreshed). During this time, pressing anything takes at least 10 seconds, including "back" or "home". Swiping between "feeds" "audio" and others also takes a very long time.
3. Moving feeds around takes a few seconds..

Anyone has any idea?

Thanks
Yoav

Try exiting and restarting

Try exiting and restarting the app (DC Navigation Menu>More>Exit) if the problem persists, reboot your device.

The problem could also be a memory issue, try lowering the number of episodes for each feed subscription
For all feeds (DC Navigation Menu>Settings>Global Feed Options>Number of Episodes) change from over 30 to 10 or 15

The issue has been around

The issue has been around ever since I started using DoggCatcher a few months ago. During this time the app and the device have been restarted multiple times.

I do not want to lower the number of episodes, I am hearing podcasts that have a lot of episodes (99% Invisible, Planet Money) and I want it to automatically download older episodes as I hear them.
I'll elaborate and use 99% Invisible as an example: I've set it to download 3 episodes per feed, so I always have the latest 3 episodes on my device. However, I listen at a rate of about 1-2 a day, so I hear the latest episode (number 262 right now) very soon after it is released. I then hear the older episodes at a backwards order. I currently listened to all of the episodes between 215 to 262. Next episode I'll hear is 214, then 213 and 212 (unless 263 is released in the mean time).
Because of this, I cannot set the number of episodes to less than 50.
The option to do so is the reason I choose DoggCatcher and not some of the competitors (As they do not allow it).
Am I'm missing anything?

Now from a programmer point of view, why does all of the feeds have to be constantly loaded into the memory?? If I listen to a specific podcast, only it should be in the memory, which will result in a quick response to "pause/play/forward".

I am "ok" with a slow refresh to the feeds (which might require all of them in memory).

Number of episodes

Android limits the amount of memory to each app (24 MB or so http://www.doggcatcher.com/node/1785) you're number of episode setting for each feed subscription is high so the memory used for feed metadata (Episode titles/descriptions, show notes & feed thumbnails ) will use more of it and will cause the app respond slowly.

So your only option to resolve this issue is to lower the number of episode setting for each feed subscription.

Eric (DC developer) will respond later

Hey,

Hey,
Ok, so I'm ok with the slow update feeds. This doesn't affect me too much.

However, I still see no reason for the sluggish "play/pause/rewind/forward", and this is a lot more annoying. Would be happy for any comments regarding this issue.

We've tested the app on many

We've tested the app on many different devices under different circumstances but there's always a chance that the app will behave different in circumstances we aren't able to reproduce.

I would be happy to issue a refund since the app isn't working out for you, just email support at doggcatcher.com and we'll get it taken care of.

Thanks for posting.

Hey Eric,

Hey Eric,
Thanks for the offer, but I'm not interested in a refund. I will keep using the app even like this.
However, if it is possible for me to help track this down somehow (debugging, log files, installing another version and so on) I would be happy to do so.
I'm on a rooted device.

Cheers
Yoav
