I upgraded DoggCatcher and a bunch of other apps after installing Nougat. Since then, my podcasts often pause after an audio notification. It doesn't do it every time and I am not sure it does it for things like phone calls, but if I use turn by turn directions in Google Maps it will almost always fail to resume within the first 3 or 4 turns. I thought there used to be a setting to make it "play nice" with other apps (or not), but I can't seem to find that now.
That's an issue with the Bluetooth connection, try restarting the app (In the DC navigation Menu>Exit) play the episode again, if that fails....try deleting the BT pairing from your device & BT vehicle/headset, then re-pair again.
For the last 4 years I've been using DC almost every day in the same vehicle without this issue - for the last 8 months with this phone. I also do not have this issue when I use Spotify. I know this because I now generally switch to Spotify before I start navigation. I guess if you aren't hearing from others, then either this really isn't a DC issue or it is a bad interaction between DC and 7.0. Perhaps time will tell when Nougat becomes more widely available. In any case, thanks for your reply. I mostly just wanted to report my experience FYI.
I tried turning off battery optimization for DC, but that didn't seem to help at all. While testing it I noticed a few things that may (or may not) be of interested.
When any notification interrupts DC, it may or may not resume. At first it tends to come back relatively quickly, but after several interruptions the audio reliably stops after a notification - although the podcast is still playing in DC. If I wait long enough (1-4 minutes), it will eventually resume where ever it is currently at in the episode. While it is cut out though, if I unlock my phone and open DC (if necessary), then it immediately resumes. The DC screen has to be on the screen, it can't just be running in the background. While it isn't playing, the track information is not displayed on my dashboard, but it comes back as soon as the audio resumes. Spotify doesn't have this problem, but then Spotify doesn't completely stop when notifications play, it just reduces the volume and the notifications play on top of Spotify track. Perhaps that is why it seems to be OK.
Battery optimization shouldn't have any affect on the problem you're experiencing, did you try deleting the BT pairing?
I received the 7.1 update and it did not address this issue - the problem remains. I have tried another podcast player and it does have the same problem; however, it has an option to "play over notifications" (like Spotify seems to do), and when that is set all is well. That isn't an ideal solution, but it would be nice to have that as an option.
There have been widespread reports of problems in the 7.x bluetooth stack and I am now convinced this is an OS problem; however neither my experience nor anything I've read suggests that repairing the device is going to help at all. Reportedly the next Nougat update is scheduled for 3 months from now so I guess I will use something else to listen to podcasts until at least then.
I am having the same problem. Does anyone have any new information? I have tried clearing DC cache, clearing system cache and data, uninstalling / reinstalling DC, and unpairing / repairing bluetooth. Google Play music doesn't appear to have the problem.
Thanks,
Dan
FWIW, I updated to android 7.1.1 and this is no longer and issue for me. I have been running it for almost a week without any issues. I had also updated Google maps, but I don't think that was the issue since I had the same problems with other notifications (e.g. texts and emails).
