Trouble parsing MP3 file from feed

The feed is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/DHUnplugged

W3C validates it, with the exception of one rather long Atom tag that appears to be setting up iTunes information. I also note that it uses a "media:" tag for the MP3 file rather than a "link" tag.

DC processes the feed very well, but fails at downloading then MP3 file.

Can DC support this feed in the future? Or should I see if they will alter their feed format?

Thanks

Too many redirects

I'm seeing the same thing you are with this feed, and it's the same root problem that I have seen just a couple before that I haven't found a solution for. The links to the audio files have more redirects than the android http stack is able to handle. It seems to be the same as the feed in this post.

Podcast downloads perfectly, but won't play. Says it's not sure how to handle encoded file. Files are MP3. Any ideas?

Podcast Feed

The feed is a paid subscription, which I have a password and user ID for.

DoggCatcher doesn't know that it's an MP3 file, is what I'm guessing and I don't know how to make it recognize that it is. If I add ".MP3" to the end of the feed, Dogcatcher shows a music note. No podcasts are listed though.

I tried to find a way to add ".mp3" to the end of the file name, but couldn't find a way to do that.

I tried TWIT and it seems to work, but I when I tried "AndroidGuys", it had the same issue.
Podcast feed is: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/androidguyscom?format=xml

The error says:

"Not sure how to handle this enclosure type, it doesn't look like supported audio or video"

Thank you for any help you can give me. I like this app. and really want to get it working.

file extension

If you are seeing the error about not handling the enclosure type then the filename does not have an extension that indicates its type. The feed indicates the filename and extension, I'm not if/why the feed points to mp3 files but doesn't use the mp3 extension. I would have to look at the feed to know for sure.

Use This Feed

Please look at this feed. It has the same problem.
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/androidguyscom?format=xml

Is there a way to tell the software to treat it as an mp3 without the extension or a way to get software to automatically add an extension to the name after downloading?

My LBC podcast is a paid subscription and I would rather not post it. Whatever is done to get the feed above to work, I'll repeat for the LBC feed.

Thank you for looking into this.

Android guys

That feed has a variety of file types (rss, youtube, pdf). I think the proper thing to do is to have DC handle the media types that it can support and then hand off the remaining type to android which will attempt to find the appropriate application.

I created an issue for this.

Eric, any information on this issue. It's been about a month since the Mantis filing. Thank you.

Not yet

Things are usually prioritized by user demand, and there are a few other items on the soon list that I have gotten a good number of requests for.

Issue

I have heard of this issue before maybe trying to parse it in a different file extension like wav or any other , just check a file extension and give it a go.

Hope this can be fixed

The only reason I paid for DC was because it could deal with the username and password on an rss feed for my premium lbc account for my android phone. I really hope this is an easy fix, or I have wasted the fee entirely and would never recommend to anyone. Understand there are priorities but this seems like a basic function that was promised by the download. Hope it can be fixed soon.

Which feed?

Which feed are you having the problem with? I'll see what I can do.

If we can't get it working, I'll be happy to issue a refund.

Please can you post situation re LBC podcast?

Hi, can't see a resolution to this issue - has one been found? Having the same problems getting the LBC podcast - Doggcatcher says it's an unrecognised file - although it has downloaded perfectly well. Thanks

We haven't implemented the fix for this yet. I don't think there's a way around it at the moment.

Cant access paid for LBC.co.uk podcasts

I bought Doggcatcher specifically to access my paid for LBC podcasts. I now find that although they appear to download perfectly well, I cannot play them, just like the users above in this thread. Can you let me know if this will work soon? I am a bit fed up of paying for Apps that don't do what they say they will. If you are not going to fix it, please could you warn future potentials buyers of Doggcatcher that it will not work for any of the many feeds supplied to paying subscribers of LBC.co.uk?

What exactly is the error

What exactly is the error message that you are getting? We might be able to get it working depending on what the problem is.

Also, if the app isn't working out for you, I would be happy to issue a refund.

The error message I get is 'this is not supported audio or video'. This happens when I click on 'play' for an episode that has been sucessfully downloaded. This seems to be the same problem that the other people in this thread were having and looks as if it has been going on for quite a while without any resolution. In message 14 (April or May 2012) you say you haven't implemented a fix for this yet.

LBC Premium Podcasts part 2

Hi, further to my comments in message 17, I found a diagnostic option for the feed and this is what it reports: 'Error Running Diagnostics java.lang.exception: RSS URL doesn't seem valid:Authentication Failure for User.' So even though the feed headline shows my name alongside it, meaning that it logged in successfully when I added the feed and appears to download shows, it doesn't work when it comes to listening.

I'm sure the guys at LBC would be only too happy to give you a free premium account so that you could replicate what their customers are going through when trying to listen to podcasts on DC. I'm working my way through Android podcast apps and as yet haven't found one that works for LBC paid for podcasts!

HI lbcpodcast,

I wonder if you have found a decent app for listening to LBC podcasts on Android? I recently moved from using an IPad to an android tablet and am having real difficulty finding an app to replace iCatcher which did everything I needed, including making playlists mixing different LBC feeds with music etc.

I apologise asking this on the public forum but cant find a way to PM.

Thanks, SF

As features are based on user feedback, I want to add that I would very much like for this small feature to be added. Each lesson on a certain language learning podcast contains a pdf and an mp3, and it would be great to open the pdf right from DC.
