I am not able to use Doggcatcher with Android Auto on my 2016 Honda Accord EX. The car is new, so I can't report if this functionality was working with prior versions of DoggCatcher.
DETAILS:
DoggCatcher Version: 1.2.4139
Device: Oneplus One and a 2016 Honda Accord EX
Android Build: Stock Cyanogen OS 12.1.1-YOG7DAS2K1 (Lollipop Android 5.1.1)
Carrier: AT&T
SUMMARY: Doggcatcher not showing as an audio application in Android Auto
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Connect phone to car and enter Android Auto
2. Access the "headphones" dropdown to see list of audio applications
3. Doggcatcher is not shown
WHAT HAPPENS: Doggcatcher is not shown as an audio application and cannot be used to play podcasts using Android Auto
WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: Doggcatcher should be shown as an audio application for Android Auto
FREQUENCY: 100%
SEVERITY: Moderate
Developers don't have control over which devices Auto apps are available on. My understanding is that there isn't any device filtering but that may not be the case. We just publish our apps saying that they support 'Auto' and google takes it from there.
Hmm, so you think that this has something to do with my phone or my car? Other apps (like Pandora and Overdrive Media) show up as options in Android Auto. Can you (or someone else) confirm that the current version of DoggCatcher works on their Android Auto setup?
If it is just me, let me know if you'd like to debug the situation and I can provide logs, etc.
I don't think it's the car. There's no documentation on this so it's mostly guessing, but it seems that the google play store app has some control over what apps are presented to android auto. The reason I think that is that I can install version x of doggcatcher on my phone manually and it won't show up in the android auto audio app list. Now if the same version of the app is installed via the google store, then doggcatcher does appear in the list. So it seems that the store is involved in there somehow.
I had the same problem. Based on Eric's responses above, I did a reinstall and it works!
Backup settings
Uninstall using play store.
Install using play store
Open DC
Restore backup.
Add widget back to home screen
Only annoyance is when you open in android auto no feeds are displayed. Each time you need to click the "hamburger icon " and select feeds with episodes. Would be nice if that setting "stuck"
Speed is he same as non-stop, but I don't think you can change it from Android auto.
Thanks for posting how you got it working.
I get what you're saying about the blank screen, I created an issue for that - http://mantis.doggcatcher.com/view.php?id=2224
Thank you for posting your solution, rmeden. I did an uninstall and reinstall and now DoggCatcher is showing up on my Android Auto as expected.
Thanks for the insight on DoggCatcher and Android Auto, guys. Here's my problem: I bought DoggCatcher via Amazon, not via Google Play. If I install via Amazon, it doesn't show up in Android Auto. I don't want to have to buy the app again via Google Play. Is there some way that I can install the Lite version via Google Play, and then upgrade it to the paid version with a key or some files?
Email support (DC Navigation Menu>More>Report Problem) and escalate the ticket , the Lite version of the app is no longer availiable on Google Play
