Wired single-button headset control no longer working

Doggcatcher 1.2.4132
Moto X Gen 1
Android 5.1 2015-12-01

I've been using headphones with mic and button for years with Doggcatcher. Most recently, I was using Degauss headphone app and everything was working. Sometime late Dec 2015 it stopped working. I think there was a Doggcatcher update around then. I think the release notes said something about headset control. I've lived w/o a headset button through January. I knew an update was coming for my phone (Kitkat to Lollipop) and I thought that might fix the problem. It did not. I got a new set of headphones, and that didn't help. Today, I uninstalled Degauss headset control, and replaced with Jay's headset control. In that app, I can see the button press, so I know it's not a hardware problem. I've read and followed the instructions on the DoggCatcher help page on headset control, and tried different settings but have not gotten the DoggCatcher to respond to button clicks.

I just verified that pause/play work when watching a YouTube video, so this seems likely to be an issue with DoggCatcher only.

Try disabling or uninstall

Try disabling or uninstall Jay's headset control/Degauss headphone apps and let Android route the button presses from the headset for DC and see if the problem is the external control apps or DC is the cause of the problem

Not working completely

Without headphone app, I can play and pause, but I can't perform the next track operation, which I used to be able to do with a double click. I have wired single button headsets.

Since the Lollipop 5.0 update

Since the Lollipop 5.0 update and up, the Android lock screens no longer support long presses (This includes Widgets) the double click action might also be affected...I'm sure though, Eric (DC Developer will confirm) and any setting change within the app would also affect all headsets though (Bluetooth or wired) as for the Jay's headset control/Degauss headphone apps, they are probably a workaround to enable those features and if they stopped working..it's either an issue with the apps or corrupt install and uninstall/reinstall of the Degauss app resolved the problem.

Not working again

My headphone button worked for a day or two with Degauss app, but now it's doing nothing again. I know that the button is working because a long press will bring up a google app.

Headset

The long press action on headsets only works to access "OK Google" detection and it won't work for other media apps, unless you use a external app like Degauss as a workaround. try uninstall/reinstalling the Degauss app again or clearing the data & cache for the app in the device settings, if that doesn't work...contact the Degauss developers for a solution the problem
