10 Ideas for DoggCatcher

I follow James Altucher's advice of coming up with 10 ideas a day. Today I did DoggCatcher. Perhaps some of these ideas will be useful.

1- It’s kind of ridiculous to have to set a custom variable speed above 1.5, and then that’s the only speed you can select. Speeds from 1.5 to 2.5 should just be included by default.
2- You should be able to set a warning for downloading data over a user-specified limit over the cell network.
3- The recommendations tab is buried (I didn’t think there was one) and the recommendation engine doesn’t seem very sophisticated.
4- You should have the option to sort the subscribed podcasts alphabetically.
5- Or sort the podcasts based on when they last updated. I have some podcasts that haven’t updated in forever, and it would be nice if they were on the bottom.
6- Doggcatcher auto-plays when connecting to bluetooth, often when I think I’ve quit the application, there should be some user preferences controlling that behavior.
7- Should be able to exit the app from the podcast play screen, weird how some menu’s are only available in different screens.
8- Should be able to rate podcasts within Doggcatcher and from the feed screen. And see those ratings.
9- More features for people who like to listen to podcasts at greater speed. See #1, but also rewind should rewind should rewind a constant real time rather than a specific audio length (so if I’m listening at double speed it should rewind twice as far as 1x speed)
10- I have some podcasts that I came to late (History of Rome for example) and I’m catching up on them. I listen to them differently (generally on long trips) than normal podcasts, it would be nice to turn off auto-play on a per feed basis so that it would get skipped unless I select it specifically.

10 Ideas

Eric will respond to listed Ideas 2 Alarm, 3, 7 and 8

1/9- There is space for one custom speed, you can enable (In the DC Navigation Menu>Settings>Audio Player) Press “Custom variable speed” >enter the value> press OK
Eric has an issue on the to do list 0000831: Add a feed option for feed specific variable speed adjustment - http://mantis.doggcatcher.com/view.php?id=831

2 – You can enable the ability to only download on WiFi n (In the DC Navigation Menu>Settings>Limit feed updates and downloads)

4-The option to sort feeds alphabetically on Eric's to do list for a future update. (See created request issue for this (http://mantis.doggcatcher.com/view.php?id=384 )
In the meantime, on the “Feeds” tab you can move your feeds/podcasts subscriptions to your desired location by pressing the context button (3 Vertical Dots right of the feed) on each feed> select “Move up/down”> swipe up or down and then lightly press on the location you would like.

5- On the “Feed' tab>Press “All Feeds” when the dialog opens>select “Feeds with new episodes” - Press 'Clear' to return to the default display.

6 -You can disable that action (In the DC Navigation Menu>Settings>Headset/Lockscreen) Press “Play audio” and change to “Disabled”

10-You can create user and dynamic playlists for specific feeds or particular episodes from different feeds (Audio Only)
(See User Guide post on playlists http://www.doggcatcher.com/node/1755

3 - Those tabs are sorted

3 - Those tabs are sorted based on what I expect to be the most commonly used ways of subscribing, moving that left would just starve out one of the other other tabs. The recommendations are based on what you subscribe to compared to others that subscribe to the same podcasts, so the more unique podcasts you subscribe to, the better the recommendations will be.

7 - I can see your point on this
8 - Yep, same here

Thanks for the feedback.
