Activating Variable Speed Playback in global settings breaks playback of audio.

DETAILS:
DoggCatcher Version: 1.2.3063 and version previous to that.
Device: Google Chuwi VX3 7" Tablet Phone
Android Build: 4.4.2 Kernel 3467
Carrier: Unlocked, Rogers CAN, no data package only Wi-Fi
SUMMARY: Activating Variable Speed Playback in global settings breaks playback of audio so that a complete DoggCatcher reinstall had to be done in the previous version.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Start DC
2. Play an audio podcast.
3. Go to All Feeds, touch 3 dot Settings/select "Settings' in drop down menu/Audio Player/Variable Speed Enabled check box
WHAT HAPPENS: The second I enabled Variable speed playback the files playback seemed to stop. It then would play back a short 1 secondish clip, pause for several minutes, play a 1 secondish clip, and repeat.
If I look at the Custom Variable Speed right below the Variable Speed Enable checkbox it shows a speed of 0.0. Changing this speed on the audio player or in Custom variable Speed doesn't fix the issue. In the previous version unchecking the Enable Variable Speed checkbox did not return audio playback functionality. In the current version it does.
WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: Variable Speed Playback should be enabled and not stopping the audio player from playing
FREQUENCY: 100%
SEVERITY: Was serious/currently inconvenient

Enabling 'Variable Speed"

Enabling 'Variable Speed" feature while playing an audio file will cause the playback to stop, because you're switching to another media player
