Auto-Play undelete the last podcast

I have setup DC to start when headset or bluetooth is connected, and to delete a podcast when it is completely read. This works great, except that if my bluetooth connect while all podcast have already been listen to, i.e. the playlist is empty, then the autoplay feature undelete the last podcast, and plays it. Is there a way to tell autoplay not to play when the audio list is empty?
Thanks.

Auto-Play feature will not

Auto-Play feature will not play any episodes if a playlist is empty, the problem could be the last episode wasn't completed for some reason and still flagged green (In the Progress) or a scheduled auto update / unintentional manual update was done and another new/previously downloaded episode was added to the playlist.

autoplay will not - updated description

Thanks Wayne for your response. The last episode was completed and disappeared from the playlist, but because I had auto download set to:
- download 1 episode,
- delete all done episodes, and
- keep only one episode ,
it seems that the autoplay feature triggered an update that downloads that last episode again.
Is there a way to configure DC to download only the latest episode, but only if that episode has not been downloaded before? (this is for a news podcast so I only want to listen to the latest news once)
I have a galaxy S3 with Android 4.1.1.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Auto-play doesn't cause files

Auto-play doesn't cause files to download, but there's a chance that a 'done' episode is getting played (which is putting it back in progress). In this case a download wouldn't happen though.

So what I'm guessing is that the last episode is completed and marked as done (playlist becomes empty), and then before the next scheduled update occurs, you connect a device. At that point the file is still on the device and starts to play again, marking it as in progress.

Could that be what's going on?

Thanks Wayne for your response. The last episode was completed and disappeared from the playlist, but because I had auto download set to download 1 episode, and auto delete set to keep only one episode , it seems that the autoplay feature triggered an update that downloads that last episode again (because the auto delete policy was to keep latest X with X=1).
If I set the auto delete policy to "delete episodes that are done", then episodes that I did not listen to are never deleted, but because this is a news podcast, I only want to listen to the latest news once.

Is there a way to configure DC auto delete policy to combine "keep the latest X" with "delete episodes that are done" so the playlist would be empty if the latest X are all done?
