Add ChromeCast support

Realize that it was just announced yesterday and I don't think the SDK is out yet, but might as well get the request in now to add Chromecast support.

I know I sometimes have a video podcast on my phone and would love to show it on the TV and going through DLNA is a pain in the butt.

Ditto - ChromeCast

I would second the request for ChromeCast. Would like to pay my sped-up podcasts wirelessly!

I just ordered my dongle last night. I'll check it out and see what's involved there...seems like it would work well with DC.

Plse Add Chromecast

All of my bluetooth receivers are terrible and more expensive than chromecast. I can't wait for a podcasting app to incorporate chromecasts. Listening to podcasts at home would finally be seamless.

I am more intersted in video

All of the things I subscribe to in Doggcatcher are video podcasts so I was referring more to watching them on the television than listening.

I pick up my Chromecast from the post office today!!

This would be fantastic. Have a look at the YouTube app when you get your chromecast, a similar UI would work great. When you select an episode you can start it playing on the chromecast, or you can add it to a special tv queue, so that it will start playing when whatever is already playing is finished.

Just got my chromecast and this was one of the first things I thought of. Would love to see this.

I can view TED Talk videos but not Tiny Desktop videos. I can see the Tiny Desktop videos in the Galaxy S4 default video player but not in the Doggcatcher player

NPR: Tiny Desk Concerts - Video Podcast

The publisher of the feeds has the file as type="audio/mpeg" & should be type="video/mpeg" So DC thinks it's audio file
enclosure url="http://podcastdownload.npr.org/anon.npr-podcasts/podcast/510292/21139786..." length="207541161" type="audio/mpeg"

I would contact the publisher & let them know at http://help.npr.org/npr/includes/customer/npr/custforms/contactus.aspx

See similar issue with a different feed - http://www.doggcatcher.com/node/4808#comment-13383

Once Eric gets the Chromecast

Once Eric gets the Chromecast SDK, I'm sure he'll update the app.

Probably because of the install base of the app, Eric will respond later or tomorrow with an update to this issue.

chromecast SDK

Did the SDK get released yesterday then? I was waiting for news after the 'Developer Hackerthon' this weekend but apart from the 10 apps there has been no other news on the SDK.

The SDK is released but I

The SDK is released but I don't know the exact details on what has to happen for apps to be whitelisted for all devices. I just signed up to get my chromecast whitelisted and I'll start playing around with this.

The reason I haven't been too exited about it yet is that for the moment this is only going to work for streaming. The way I understand it, the chromecast device streams directly from the site hosting the audio file.

Btw, the chromecast itself is pretty great though, I've been using it for a while with netflix and it works way better than the netflix app built into my tv.

Why is it a problem that it only works for streaming?

Isn't every podcast originally a video or audio file on the web somewhere? When you click the cast button, can't you have Doggcatcher tell the server to start streaming the file from the point that the local client was at in the file, and then update Doggcatcher about the progress?

It's not a problem, just not

It's not a problem, just not ideal. We might run into problems with things like authenticated feeds since the chromecast is the thing that fetches the files from the server. Also pinned episodes are often not available on the servers any more.

I just got my authorization code today from google so I'm going to start messing around with this over the holidays.

I've done some playing around with this and have it sort of working. I've got some other things I've got to knock first but hopefully in a week or so, I'll be able to get back on the chromecast work.

Yes please!

Please add support for audio and video, I would love to be able to cast from DoggCatcher. I saw above you saying that it only works with streaming but both Allcast and Solid Explorer Cast Plugin can cast local files.
