2013 Audi MMI - Bluetooth Playback

Just purchased new car. 13 Audi A4 with MMI. When going from bluetooth media (which is always Doggcatcher) to internal media (SD Card, Jukebox), or to Radio, Doggcatcher will continue to play. Viewing the UI while switching, it pauses, then immediately starts playing again - which is not heard because I am not playing bluetooth audio thru the car.

I tested with the android music player (galaxy s3 4.1.1 built in player), and it didn't seem to exhibit this issue. Bluetooth to another source - paused. Come back, plays.

If I stay with bluetooth and turn car off, the disconnect seems to pause without trouble, same with a connection event when the car is started.

Is there a log that would be helpful in diagnosing?

Thanks...

It sounds like the car is sending two play/pause events very close together. This same thing happen with ford sync. I just got a ford and was able to reproduce this so I'll probably be fixing it soon.

I think the android music player is smart enough to ignore the second event when it happens really close to the first.

Here's the bug I've got to fix it - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=1469

Thanks for posting, sorry the spam net got ya.

It's great...

when the dev has the same problem as the customer. Those issues seem to get resolved faster!

Bug entry shows a version that I have now

Is that version the one that got fixed or the resulting fixed version? I am assuming the former.

I think what you're looking

I think what you're looking at is the version it was reported in (or when I entered the bug). We don't know the version number yet that'll have the fix.

Downloaded new version

Still have same problem when changing sources. If I pause it manually after switching sources, and then go back, it will play. That is an improvements, before it would play then pause. Any logs or degugging I can do to help?

Not really, I don't know what

Not really, I don't know what else we are going to be able to do here. The head unit is sending play/pause to DC so we'll need to respond to those. We are filtering out duplicate messages (those that come really close together), but there isn't really a way to know which ones to honor and which ones to ignore.

Wish I had a better answer.

Android Music player doesn't have this issue

There is no source available to see what the built in player/OS (JB 4.1.2) is doing when play/pause events are being sent, where it doesn't have this issue?

At least understand the difference between what Audi is sending vs. Ford might be helpful. Perhaps its a play/pause, then a disconnect/connect which is causing the problem?

I have a similar issue in my

I have a similar issue in my 2013 VW Passat. Doesn't seem to matter if I pause manually or not, the player restarts as soon as I turn off the car and the bluetooth connection ends.

Also, this occurs even when Doggcatcher wasn't playing but was resident in the background. I will get out of the car and the currently loaded podcast will start playing. Happened a couple of times when my phone was in my pocket and i drove work mates to lunch. Potentially embarrasing, but luckily I was listening to nothing more offensive than cricket podcasts. ;)
