Delete When Done doesn't work right for Expired Items

When an expired item is auto-deleted, it leaves behind an empty file which must be deleted by hand.

Expired items should never be auto-deleted, unless possibly if you delete the feed.

When you say expired, you mean you have 'retain expired' set to true for a feed and you are seeing one of those items get deleted when the feed updates, but the media remains on the sd card. Do I have that right?

Expired Items are deleted

For my feeds, I have "retain expired" set and have the Auto Delete policy set to "All done items".

The Expired Items are deleted from the sd card when the update occurs, but they still remain in the list as not downloaded. Since they are expired, there is no way to download them anymore, so I think they should disappear from the list.

I support this behavior by the system, since it keeps my memory use within reason.

Ok, I think I get what you're trying to do. You are using 'retain expired' and you want to get the items to be deleted when you are done listening to them.

Unfortunately, DC doesn't work this way now. I've got something in the user guide related mentioning that you have to manually delete your items whenever you use retain expired. That feature basically tells DC to ignore them.

From what you are describing, it sounds like it doesn't completely ignore them...it still deletes the media but you still have the item lingering around.

I'm not sure exactly what I'll need to do here...either clarify the documentation, prohibit a delete policy when you have 'retain expired on', or re-implement the retain expired logic to support what you are looking to do.

Thanks for letting me know that it is behaving this way because it is confusing as it stands. I need to do something to improve this.

I created an issue for this.
