Hard pause button for pause on T-Mobile MyTouch

I love this program and really appreciate whatever development you recently did to handle inaccurate RSS file sizes. I haven't had a problem since - thank you!

I have a feature request: allow the trackball click button to work as a pause regardless of phone state. I would appreciate something similar to the volume controls (which always work regardless of phone state or application). It is too cumbersome to pull the phone out of my pocket, slide in the unlock code, click on Dogg Catcher and then hit pause.

It would be great if I could be using the webbrowser and quickly pause. Or on the home screen and quickly pause. Or in my pocket locked and quickly pause.

Agreed, this would be a very welcome feature! If it is at all possible for applications to register button presses like this when the phone is locked.

But I don't think it is a good idea to use the trackball as pause button while in other applications, as it already has a function there. But as a pause button when the phone is locked it would be great.

Another idea that just popped into my head ;-) pause the podcast if you turn the volume all the way down.

Buttons when phone is locked

I looked into this a while back and everything I could turn up said that it wasn't possible to respond to button presses when the phone is locked. I agree that it would be extremely useful to be able to be able to play/pause without unlocking the phone. The only way I'm aware of doing that is with a media button press.

That's a pretty good idea about the min volume. I also just looked to see if DC could get alerted when the volume hit bottom but couldn't find anything. I watch the android dev mailing list pretty closely. If anything related comes up, I take another look.

Well, I have a Motorola Droid, but...

Try this on for size: there is a way to disable the lock/unlock function when turning the screen off and on --many apps do this already.

Other apps such as bTunes (and there are other non-media player apps, too) disable the locking function when you press the power/display off button, and when you press the button to turn the display back on, instead of the lock screen the app offers you a substitute lock screen that gives you a variety of controls over the media playing, etc. It then "locks" back as necessary.

Anyway, maybe it's worth toying with, since lock screen controls are surely a high-demand feature.

Lock screen

Hmm...it looks like rather than replacing the lock screen, they are just displaying a screen on top of the lock screen. I didn't think that was possible. Thanks for the tip.

Maybe with the Camera button

I have a Cliq and agree that some kind of hard-button play/pause toggle would be great. Of course the Cliq does not have a trackball so in my case that wouldn't be the button to use. How about the Camera button? Or better yet, give a couple of choices; camera, trackball, simultaneous volume up/down press, etc.
