Hide feeds with no new episodes

Could we have an option to hide/unhide the feeds that doesn't have any
new episodes on the main feeds screen? I've got 20+ feeds, so I have to scroll up and down to see which feeds have new episodes.

Filters

I like the idea of having some filters on the feeds list. I think it kind of related to categories of feeds. I have an issue for categories, so I added a reference to this post so I can think about them together.

In the mean time, you can get a list similar to what you are looking for in the playlist. It's a list of items, rather than feeds, but I see it as the 'inbox' of all your items.

I have struggled with how to work categories in the feeds list because I didn't want it to re-order the feeds (because that's the order the playlist operates in). Maybe the categories would just be a filter you could select to limit what feeds are displayed on the feed screen, and similarly you could filter by feeds that have items to consume.

That may work, let me think about that for a bit.

Yes, the playlist is nice,

Yes, the playlist is nice, but I have some podcasts that I've set to not download automatically, so I can check out the episode description before I decide if I want to download them. So then I still have to scroll around in the feeds list to see which feeds have new episodes.

+1 for filters/categories. I

+1 for filters/categories. I have around 50 feeds so scrolling through them all is a pain.

Filters vs groupings

I'd like to get some feedback on how you all would see this working.

I see a difference between an implementation that is based on filters versus one based on groupings.

I see filters as something that you could select on the feeds screen that would simply limit the feeds that are displayed. It wouldn't change the order of the feeds displayed or affect the play list order or filter the items played from the playlist (more on this later).

I see groupings being displayed as a headers bar for each category and changing the order of the displayed items because all the feeds for a particular group would be displayed next to each other. I don't think this specifically addresses the problems I have heard with having a lot of feeds because you still have to scroll through them all, although it would help to have a visual indicator when scrolling from group to group.

I'm leaning towards a filtering implementation, because I think it best addresses the main problem that I have heard which is that the feed list is to long to find what you are looking for.

With the filtering implementation I have in mind, you would be able to filter the feed list by some predefined categories like media type (video, audio, news) and also by custom categories that users could create and assign to each feed. There could be filters for other things such as feeds with errors, feeds with new items, etc.

The same filters could also be applied to the playlist, just as it is now with audio/video/news.

Please share your thoughts if you have any. We'll probably need to pick one the these types of solutions because I don't they they will play well together.

I too like the filter

I too like the filter solution best, and I hope the predefined filters would include things like "has new episodes" and "has downloads". That would be a great solution to my original request to show feeds with new episodes only.

I guess we would also have a way of tagging feeds then, so we could say this is a tech podcast, this is a news podcasts, etc, and then filter by these tags/categories?

+1 for the filter

Also the tagging and filtering by tags sounds very nice.

Another thing, it would be nice to also have the option to not display any played episodes at all. I have some feeds where I save the longer episodes for when I have the time, and there might be 5-8 shorter episodes between longer ones. What that does is, I have to scroll down the feed searching for the telltale blue marker.

My ideal scenario would be

My ideal scenario would be that the last feed with new items would allways go up first. So basically feeds would auto-sort all the time.

Also related to this issue is the fact that currently you can't move around the playlist -- I'd like to see that changed.
