Periodic Crashes When...

I've been getting periodic crashes when switching between listening to music and listening to my podcasts on Doggcatcher. Has anyone else experienced this?

I pretty much exclusively use A2DP (Bluetooth) and this occurs when I begin to play a podcast after it being paused. It may be related to Doggcatcher not being in the forefront when I hit the button on my headset, but what happens is:

1) Doggcatcher freaks and dies.
2) A regular music track starts randomly using the global shuffle.

I was thinking, perhaps the best solution for this, since it might be some difficulty in how the A2DP controls are passed around, might be to use Doggcatcher for music AND for podcast? I guess this could be a feature enhancement/bugfix.

What say you?

Anyone else experiencing similar effects/issues?

Freakin and dyin

Is your 'bind to headset' preference enabled? I assume so, but I just want to be sure.

I have only been successful at using the play/pause button to work with DC (with bind to headset enabled) OR for the play/pause button to work with the android player, but not for any sort of sharing of the button. It sounds like this may be working for you, is that right?

We definitely don't want any crashes. If you could send me the log (in the menu 'capture log'), I'll take a look and see what's going wrong.

Thanks for the post.

Your assumptions are...

absolutely correct!

Bind to headset in DC is enabled. I'll send you the log file asap, (IE: once I replicate the error, since I've rebooted my phone very recently today).

Thanks Eric for DC. It is awesome software, and has daily use for sure.

So this is what's happening

I have had this happen to me once.

Since DC is bound to the button, is tries to respond to it, but since it crashes, it doesn't handle the button press. This results in the button press being propagated on to the android music player.

You're welcome. I really enjoy working on the app...it's great having so many happy users.

But of course...

So far, I've not had this crash happen since that day I posted, where it had been happening ever day or so.

I'll make sure to forward it to you if you still need the log.

Sure

Well it's good there hasn't been a crash :-)

But yes, please forward the log whenever there's a crash. I normally do my best to get crash bugs resolved immediately.

Sent Log

Had a crash this morning, (and periodic crashes this morning which eventually required a reboot), but I have a feeling it might be the new Twitter widget I installed, (Twidgit).

Interesting coincidence

Thanks for sending the log.

What I think is happening is that when this problem occurs for you, DC is not running at all. But it is configured to listen for the media button, so when you press the button, DC tries to start, and then things go wrong.

I don't think it's the right behavior to start DC when the button is pressed because the button is a shared resource. Now if DC is running and you have it configured to bind to the button, then that's another story.

The coincidence is that last night I made a change so that this shouldn't happen anymore...the button presses are only considered when the app is already running.

Let's see what happens with the next version, what I hope is that if you press the button and DC is not running, then DC will not respond to it.

Oh, and you might want to take a look at the log you sent, there's are quite a few exceptions coming from another app...it may be a problem or not, I can't say for sure.

I can totally believe that.

I can totally believe that. Thanks for the assistance. I'll be checking things out. Considering wiping my phone soon anyways as I'd like to experiment with one of the ROM's that allow for app install to SD card.
