Bug: short life span podcasts don't get deleted (or retained)

I listen to the NPR newscast so I don't lose track of the world listening to all my other podcasts:
http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=5183215

On Dogcatcher, it only ever appears as one entry. I usually listen to this podcast twice a day, I have to force download it when I want to listen to it (this generally only takes a minute because its small.. ).

The ones I download eventually drop off the next hour but the file remains in the podcastenclosure folder. I've tried using the "retain expired" option but it doesn't seem to work.

None of this is huge but it is an annoyance.

Good news...but

I have completed work on the feature that resolves this, but it's not in the market version yet. I am just going to give it to the beta testers tomorrow (probably), so it will hit the market a week or so from now.

What you will want to do is configure the feed with these options
Maximum media files - 1
Item identifier - 'Filename' (this is what is missing in the version that you have)

Once you have this version and it's configured this way, each time DC updates the feed, it will delete the old enclosure and download the new one, so it shouldn't leave any orphans on the SD card. The drawback is that you might be downloading more than you listen to. So for example if you have your feed update interval set to 1hr, it will download every hr, even if you don't listen to any of them during that time. They are about 100KB in this case so it's probably not too big of a deal.

The reason that there is only one item displayed in DC is that there is only ever one item in the feed. Take a look at this in a browser - http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=500005

The retain items might not work the way you want for this feed (even with the next version) because when it's enabled, you have to manually delete all the items...24/day...lots of clicking.

Once the next version is released, see if this works for you. If not, let me know and we'll try something else.

Thanks for posting.

Suggested Feeds

In regards to this, it would be nice if these settings were already set in the suggested feeds. I had to re-add this feed and I've been having the same problem where it wasn't downloading automatically. It would be nice if the feed in the feed finder already had this set...

Pre-configured feeds

I've thought quite a bit about how to do this. I considered what you are saying and also just having a 'notes' section for each feed that describes it's special needs.

What I need to do is figure out a way for user's to push this config setting to the server in an automated way...I don't think I would want to manage this manually.

Maybe it's just a matter of inspecting the few settings for a feed that are used to handle weird situations, and if a certain number of users all set it up the same way, recommend that to others.
