One feature still missing from Doggcatcher is the ability to play enhanced podcasts that have images embedded.
These images are set to show at specific intervals of the podcast (chapters?).
As it is now, doggcatcher only plays the audio. No images are shown at all. No skipping between chapters is possible.
For one example of an enhanced podcast, see http://feeds2.feedburner.com/MartinBaileyPhotographyPodcast
Thanks for listening.
Okay, I found an open issue regarding this. However, this has been open since 2009. I was hoping that it'd be possible to have this in less than 3 years.
Yep, I was expecting the ability to parse the images out would get baked into the android media player. Backed when I checked last, I also couldn't find a library to use to snag the images but maybe something is available now. I'll take another look.
Thanks for the feedback.
I'd like to see the ability to skip chapters in M4A podcasts as well.
I used to be a bit believer in M4A and would still listen to 'em *IF* Presto would work with them. But it doesn't. Listening at 2x always trumps enhanced feeds.
Hi, I have been using DC for several years for now and it is the single most reason for me using an android device. I never regretted paying for it.
I have noticed that the inbuilt video player doesn't support video formats like M4V in which some increasing number of podcasts are being provided. I would appreciate if this feature along with several other video formats are supported.
Other features I would love to see in DC are:
1. Allow locking individual podcasts from accidental deletion (podcasts one like to keep for viewing again and again). Pl. include features like keep podcast with media and without media. The locked podcasts should be able to be synced with some online sync/storage service so that resetting the device doesnt effect them. All unplayed podcasts should be able to be automatically downloaded after restoring the DC.
2. Screen locking feature
3. On-screen Brightness and volume controls
2. Better integration with Youtube etc services
DC does support video formats like M4V, but if feed or feeds are from the Blip.tv & Blip doesn't allow downloads of podcasts, except for iTunes.
Blip does sometimes allow streaming of the RSS feed. To stream episodes from this podcast, long press on a episode or context button (Triangle right of episode) & select stream.
There is a work a round to download episodes (see forum post http://www.doggcatcher.com/node/2582 No guarantee how long it will work.
1a. Allow locking individual podcasts from accidental deletion
That's on Eric's to do list for the ability to pin episodes (pinned episodes will not be deleted) see issue - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=1286
1b. Cloud syncing
Also on Eric's to do list, see issue feed synchronization across multiple devices http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=1472
2. Screen locking feature
You can enable lock screen controls with the user interface setting in the preferences (In the DC Menu)
3. On-screen Brightness and volume controls
Should be a feature already on your device
4. Better integration with Youtube etc services
See FAQ post on how add YouTube feeds - http://www.doggcatcher.com/node/1028
Downloading youtube videos is against the terms of service.
