Currently, the Feeds tab only shows a number if an episode is flagged as new or in progress, and the Audio tab only shows downloaded episodes that are flagged as new or in progress. This means that in order to find and manually delete episodes that are done, I have to clear filters, go through each feed one at a time, show all episodes, then scroll through the entire episode list.
I would like an option for the main feeds tab and/or the audio tab to show downloaded episodes that are flagged as done. This would enable me to quickly and easily catch episodes that the auto-delete function missed or undesireable file types (zip) that auto-downloaded.
I vaguely recall that DC's old UI used to have a numeric indicator if a feed had a downloaded episode, including episodes flagged as done.
We might be able to do something like that.
Is there a reason that the auto-delete isn't working right for you. If we can make an improvement there, maybe we can eliminate the manual step altogether.
Auto delete isn't working on virtual feeds.
Ok, I've got an open bug for that. So if we got that working, that would solve the problem for you right?
I wanted to give two use case where Auto-Delete is not useful (and the reason I manually delete files).
1) I listen to podcasts daily while working. There are times where I'll get engrossed in something that I'm working on and notice that the podcast finished playing and I barely listened to any of it. In this case I would have to redownload the episode if auto-delete where enabled.
2) I go to sleep listening to podcasts (setting a timer, though sometimes I forget). So if I happened to be near the end of a podcast that finishes before my timer went off, but after I fell asleep, I would have to redownload to listen to the end of the podcast.
There are a few options that would help here.
1) Be able to create a playlists of downloaded, and marked as done files (option to delete all the files in a playlist would be useful, but not a deal breaker)
2) Have an option in the settings to delete all "Done" files (I've seen other podcast apps have this and would probably be easier to implement than the above).
3) Do the above suggestion where the number of downloaded and done episodes shows up in teh feed list (maybe as a red or white number).
Anyhow, I hope this gives some insight on why the Auto-Delete feature isn't always the optimal solution for managing files.
I had an issue to be able to delete orphaned files, #2 is kind of along the same lines. I updated the issue and added a ref back to this post - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=271
Thanks for posting.
What would work for me is for podcasts finished while the sleep timer is on to not be deleted from the playlist, then to be able to manually delete from the playlist.
