DoggCatcher Activity: Pause/Resume

There are apps out there like 'Bar Control' that let you put an icon into the navigation bar, as a shortcut. It would be super useful to be able to Pause/Resume with an activity shortcut, instead of having to switch to DoggCatcher, and trying to press the pause button without touching anything else (since I happen to touch the >>| and the slider accidentally quite a bit, and hence make as done a podcast that I just wanted to pause...).

That's a good idea

I think you are referring to the window shade that the notifications are in at the top of the screen right?

Let me know if this is what you are talking about and I'll create a mantis issue.

Well an activity is something

Well an activity is something from the SDK, and can be explored by anycut and other apps to see what an application can do. I'm just suggesting that you expose the pause/resume feature as an Android Activity, so that other apps can use that to control playback.

If you don't want to do that you could change what your playback notification icon does, but that is only visible if an item is playing, and all it does is to bring doggcatcher to the front, it does not allow me to quickly pause, and once paused the icon will disappear, and I have to bring doggcatcher to front with other means (press home long to bring up the task list, or go to the home screen and click on the icon, and since the home screen can take 5-10 seconds to draw, that is quite burdensome).

I get it now

Activity/Intent - Ok, that makes perfect sense. I'll create an issue for this.

I agree that using the notification bar is only going to help if it's already playing. Unless I make a DC notification stay in the notifications pane as long as the app is running. I would have to make this configurable though because I could see that not everybody would want it.

Just to chime in...

I would... (like the notification icon to stay up all the time). Preferrably instead of / merged with the download status icon (the one that comes up once DC has downloaded an episode)

Not quite sure what that will bring me

The issue is that when driving, finding the pause button, or when listening to podcasts, and my boss entering my cube, and I have to fumble to find the pause button. There should be a really fast and secure way to pause the current podcast without having to worry to click on another podcast in the playlist, or clicking onto the slider below (both happen all the time for me.)

If you could explain how that notification icon will help me with my pause issue, please?

Same interest

I think we all have the same interest here. It's too hard to hit the pause/play button...or should I say...too easy to miss.

There's an issue in mantis to have an alternate view of the media controls and this is what I thought would be the best solution given that we are constrained to the screen. I would like to add an option to flip the view of the media controls to be bigger, and it should be easy to flip back. I'm still eyeing up the sliding drawer control (the thing you drag on the home screen to bring up the apps). It could slide up some bigger buttons and then could be tucked away. It kinda requires cupcake so I'm waiting to see how long it takes to get rolled out. It is possible to use the drawer now, but it will be throw away work once the real drawer is available. What I might do is create the alternate view with bigger buttons and just have a hacky way to flip the view until the drawer is available.
