Hi all,
I've been using doggcatcher for a number of months and when I opened it up today all of my feeds were gone - I wasn't subscribed to any feeds, none of the episodes I had downnloaded are appearing or anything.
I turned my phone on and off again and it's now put all the default feeds up. My doggcatcher directory still seems to have the episodes of feeds that I'd downloaded and queued up in there, and things like cover art for podcasts.
I didn't do any backups (feel stupid for that now! is there a setting to automatically make a backup every 24 hours or something? because that would be super awesome...)
Is there any way to restore all this stuff, or am I going to have to manually resubscribe to everything? Also, what could have caused this issue?
I use a Nexus S.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm sorry you're experiencing this. It sounds like what happened is that the database became corrupted and couldn't be read. Then after the reboot, the failed attempt to open the database resulted in the creation of a new one.
With all the DC installations, this is the second or third time I've heard of this happening, and unfortunately, without a backup, there isn't a way to get all your configuration back. DC keeps uses a standard android database on the device's internal storage and there seem to be some circumstance where it can become corrupted. There isn't any way to prevent this from happening but we could do a better job of being able to recover from it. I have it on the todo list to be able to schedule backups to occur automatically. I'll see if I can move that some up in the schedule so this doesn't bite anyone else.
Once again, apologies for this. I know it is a serious pain to set things up again.
Eric
Thanks for the quick response, I really appreciate it - sucks that this freak bug had to happen to me and I guess it teaches me for not backing things up occaisionally!
Thanks also for the gift card - completely unexpected and I'm no longer quite so mad at having to spend half an hour trying to remember which feeds I was subscribed to and which episode I was up to. At least the files are still there so I can use that to guide me....
You're welcome, and thanks for supporting the app.
