a bug plus a couple of feature requests

Hello,

First, thanks for an excellent podcast player; I've been a user for years now.

I have a couple of bug reports/feature suggestions:

1. Quite often when I hit 'play', I get a message, saying that the feed is unavailable. This should never happen (this is a bug). I think the item currently being played should not be deleted (in other words, if I set a limit of 1 podcast per feed, there should be 1 + the one I am playing now; if I am not playing a feed, then just one total)

If this is already how it works, then I don't know why I see "media file has been deleted" message.

2. Often I'll find that for the podcast which has a limit of 1 podcast (NPR news updates), there is single item, and it has not been downloaded yet. This should never happen. I think the item in a feed should not be erased until the other item is done downloading.

3. Order of playback: when I am in a podcast view for a particular feed, and I hit 'play' on a particular feed item, the rest of that feed should be played; after that, either going to whatever global order is or to the next feed is ok. Right now, DC behaves somewhat counter-intuitively by playing something else after a feed I tapped on in the per-feed podcast view has been played)

1 - Agree, I think the currently playing item should be exempt from deletion. I've got an issue for this - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=901

2 - I agree that would be better however it goes against the basic approach dc uses to update feeds. First we delete, then we update. Switching this around would be pretty risky. We shouldn't be ending up with a new item that doesn't immediately start downloading though, as long as the auto-downloads is at least 1.

3 - There are a few people that have asked for this and I think it's because that's the way itunes works (although I've never used it). DC is currently working off the audio playlist, so it can vary depending on what you have it set to. If you have it set to 'feed/date' and you clicked on the oldest item in the feed, the next item should also be in the same feed and should continue to the next newest item. I do have it on the todo list to do exactly what you're asking. It will be a departure from the current playlist, so it will have to be a configuration. Actually, it may even work *as* a playlist.

Thanks for the feedback and getting my thinking about #3...I starting to think that a playlist that behaves by being sticky to the feed may work just fine.

Should it always play the oldest item in the feed regardless of which one finishes or continue towards the newest starting right after the one that finished?

#2: :( (this is really a problem for only those podcasts you'd want to have one of: news, for example)
#3: never used iTunes either :)

The thing about #3 is that I do have my order, but sometimes I want to play items only in a particular feed; out of order. In fact, I never look at what my playlist is.

I would suggest that intuitive playback order is:
- if i played items from the playlist, use playlist order
- if i played items from the feed:
- play the item i played
- play the item after the one I played
- circle to the first item

That said, once you are playing per-feed, my use-case is already satisfied, and it matters less whether you jump to the first item or continue playing. It may make sense to jump to first item as well.

So I see how the feed/date

So I see how the feed/date playlist wouldn't work in that case since it won't loop back up to the top of the feed. I'm pretty sure I can get that done by adding another playlist that just plays the episodes within the feed of the current episode, and then loops back to the top of the feed once the end is reached.

I created an issue for this.

Thanks again for talking this through with me.
