Dropbox Integration for backup

A lot people (including myself) have subscribe to a lot of podcasts on dogcatcher. I may have close to 70 podcasts subscribed. I would hate to loose these subscriptions and customized settings for many of these podcasts. One can loose settings and subscriptions if he/she decide to switch to a new rom, switch phone or if the phone bricks, and if have to reset to factory settings. This potential issue begs for some kind of online backup of subscriptions and settings, from which they can be restored. Titanium backup has a similar feature where it has integrated dropbox into its application. The settings and podcasts could be uploaded and backed up to a dropbox account. And they can be restored from there.

I hope you get the idea. Basic dropbox accounts are free and give 2gb of free storage online.

I hope this feature can be integrated into the future updates of dogcatcher…which is my favorite and by far the best podcasting app on android market.

I might end up using google's

I might end up using google's own cloud backup/restore, that's currently on the todo list.

The current DC backup (in the menu) would handle all the scenarios you describe though since the backup goes on an sd card.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for prompt reply. I

Thanks for prompt reply. I hope this feature comes soon. Dropbox or even google's own cloud backup/restore could be an added feature while still preserving the ability to backup/restore on sd card. Because if someone looses his/her phone, they will be able to restore their settings etc from the cloud.

Thanks for creating the most awesome podcasting app.

Maybe if I made the backup

Maybe if I made the backup location configurable, you could point it at a drop box folder.

I created an issue for this - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=1023

This is what I would like to

This is what I would like to do that Dropbox would help with.... there are some radio shows I record with Replay A/V, a kind of DVR like tool for internet streams. It creates MP3s in a directory of my choosing from the stream, like Dropbox, then I want to play them in Doggcatcher so it would be cool if DC downloaded them automatically from Dropbox.

You could create a virtual

You could create a virtual feed in DC and point the directory (in feed options) to the folder in your dropbox folder that have the mp3s.

Eric - this may work. Though

Eric - this may work. Though the mobile dropbox I don't think auto downloads files into the local directory on your mobile device, so it would require extra step(s)

Eric, please use Google's

Eric, please use Google's automatic backup, because it just works and requires no actions from users. I myself lost my feed list two times already because of switching devices. If the feature was there it would be a non-issue.

The wonderful thing about automatic backup is that you don't even have to be aware of it for it to work, so it will be a very pleasant surprise to the blissfully ignorant.
