Greetings,
I'm on HTC Thunderbolt. I don't know when this started but, within the last few weeks, my DoggCatcher has stopped advancing automatically to the next item. I see that autoplay is enabled both in the global settings area which shows up with the little checked "A" on the lower-right screen.
I have to hit each podcast to make it start playing. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff
Nothing in DC has changed around that feature in while. Can you please send a log file (in the DC menu) right after it happens with brief description of what happened and I'll take a look. My guess is that DC is telling the media player to play the next file but it's not starting correctly.
Thanks.
Thanks you for the work on DoggCatcher.
I have been using this program on a , G1,HTC Desire, San Fransisco, and now an SG3. The Autoplay feature fails to work on a number of Podcasts from the BBC. Some work, some don't. A specific example is http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/archers/rss.xml which never moves forward to the next episode even though it has been downloaded ready to play.
I suspect the issue might be that that the poscast does not correctly finish - if an episode has finished playing and I press the play button straight away I get to hear a fraction of a second of the tail end of the podcast.
I think you're right about the episode not finishing. That behavior sounds similar to what happens when publishers splice adverts into the audio files. The result is an improperly encoded file that the android media player doesn't know how to handle. The most common symptom is a file completing before it reaches the end (opposite of your experience). Do those feeds have spliced in adverts or do you notice a DC notification displaying an error when the episode ends?
I just noticed in the past month or so that BBC World Update: Daily Commute won't auto advance to the next podcast when it finishes. There are no spliced-in adverts, and I haven't noticed any DC notifications, but I'll keep a more watchful eye out for notifications to see if any pop up. Would grabbing a log right after it happens be helpful at all?
It might, I'll take a look if you send one.
Let me preface with: DoggCatcher is my absolute favorite piece of software; I use it every day for multiple hours, and I love it.
I'm getting the same (or similar) auto-play failure ONLY with BBC podcasts. And I'm almost positive it's only the BBC casts. (I listen to over 50 podcasts) :-P
I'll post the log information as soon as it happens again. Thanks!
~Dan
When you send the log (DC Menu,Send log to Dev.) write the name & URL of one of the BBC feeds with the problem
