keeps reverting to old settings

Never had this problem before. Everytime I set up my feed and global settings (display 2 autodownload 2), it works for about a half a day. The next time I open the app, though, it asks me to accept the EULA again and has reverted to the old global settings (10,10) and only shows episodes from 3 weeks ago. It wont update to find the new episodes, either, until I readd the feeds. I deleted the Doggcatcher folders and everything inside on both the internal and external SDs. I also uninstalled and reinstalled. Inspire 4G, BTW.

update

It also will not let me backup, stating that /data/data/.../DOGG_CATCHER_PREFERENCES.XML (No such file or directory)

The only way to fix this is

The only way to fix this is to uninstall DoggCatcher & then reinstall DoggCatcher. If this is a new install the backup issue will not be a problem, but if this is a older install & you have not backed up recently you will not be able to recover the current settings. However you will be able to recover the last successful backup.

So what is happening is that

So what is happening is that the directory where doggcatcher is installed and stores its database and preferences is no longer accessible. I've come across a handful of these cases over the past couple years. It usually happens on a clean install but can occur during an upgrade. Unfortunately, the only recovery is to uninstall the app, which removes the data directory. Reinstalling should recreate the directory.

From your first post, it sounds like you already did this though.

I'm not surprised that the backup fails because the backup is trying to copy what's in the corrupt data directory to the sd card, which is why we're getting the error about the preferences file.

The only thing I can think of is that if you have root on your device, you could manually delete the doggcatcher data directory.

I can't tell you exactly what it is but it will look something like this:

/data/data/com.snoggdoggler....

If you do this, be very careful not to delete anything but the doggcatcher directory or you'll delete the data for your other apps.

I wish I had more to tell you but DC needs to count on the data directory existing and being read/writable otherwise it cannot persist any of its settings or database.

I just took a look at your log and DC doesn't have rights to it's own directory. The only thing I can think of is deleted the directory as root.

Here are the log entries.

Here's a post that seems to match pretty much exactly.

I'm guessing that deleting this directory (as root) would cause it to get re-created properly

/dbdata/databases/com.snoggdoggler.android.applications.doggcatcher.v1_0/shared_prefs/

Deleting only this dir should leave the database which holds your feeds alone.
