I've noticed over the last couple of days that podcasts will suddenly stop in the middle of playback and I need to go back in to the app to start it up again. It will do this a couple of times in an hour long podcast. I've had this app for months and it has only being doing this probably since the last version update.
There are some other audio apps that periodically grab the audio focus which force dc to stop playing. You'll get a system notification when this happens (unless the preference to display this was disabled).
That's probably what is happening.
Is there any way to tell what app is grabbing the focus. I've tried uninstalling various audio apps but have not been able to isolate the problem.
Yep.
Send the log to yourself. In the DC menu, send log to developer, except replace my email address with your own. Open the log file that you receive and look for "AudioPauser". That is where dc pauses because it lost focus. Then look right above that and you'll get some clues about what apps were doing stuff just prior to the pause.
Is there anyway to tell Doggcatcher not to pause at all? I get this pause when I get a new text message or my tweetdeck updates.
The pausing is intentional and without it things are actually worse because the podcast audio will continue to play in the background while the notification is playing on top (or the podcast will be completely blocked out). But the important thing to note is that the podcast play would continue in the background. The pause/resume makes it so you don't miss anything.
It's technically possible for DC not to pause but it seems that it would be pretty undesirable to miss a couple seconds. Is that what you are looking to do?
Hi Eric,
Thanks for the reply. What I would like to have happen if possible is that Doggcatcher not pause at all when it is playing unless I get a phone call. I don't want an email notification or SMS notification or Tweet notification to take precedents over the podcast. I don't care about notifications when I am listening to a podcast as I find it more troubling to have to unlock my phone open Doggcatcher and then hit play to resume the podcast that stopped. Is there any way to do this?
thanks,
John
All you have to do is set your notification volume to 0. That seems a little outside of the scope of DC, but you could use a program like Settings Profile or Tasker to do it automatically.
Hmm, I never tried what Pete suggests. That's a good idea.
You definitely need to go down the route of stopping the notifications. When they play, they will take precedence over DC, or any other app that is playing audio.
