number of podcasts per feed

I am new to doggcatcher coming from google listen on HTC Desire HD (after google listen deleted all my downloaded podcasts).
Certain feeds show only one podcast, some a few more. How can I get older podcasts? This was easy with google listen but the function does not seem available in doggcatcher (I increased the number of items to display in the Feed Options but it does not have any effect).
The SD card is not full at all either.

Another small criticism: getting the description of the podcasts directly on the screen would be a big help for some podcasts (changing the identifier does not help).

Why can't I see older items for a particular feed?

Some feeds only keep a certain number of items published.

The first thing to do is to check what items are available in the feed by pasting the feed URL into a browser. Try to find the item that you are looking for.

If it's not there, then the publisher has removed that item from the feed.

If it is there but it is not available in DoggCatcher, let me know and I'll look into it.

If you paste the url into the browser and only see one item, then you've stumbled across a feed that doesn't keep a history but rather just the latest item. You can't go back and get older items, but you can enable the 'retain expired' feed option which will get the items from getting removed from DC once the publisher removes them.

I plan on adding the item descriptions on the tablet...there's not much room on the phones.

Indeed in the browser I saw only one item.
In Google Listen, I managed to pull older podcasts though.
Regarding item description, here too it worked perfectly in Google Listen (I have a HTC Desire HD)

The way I understand listen

The way I understand listen to work is that the app doesn't talk directly to the publisher's site so google must be collecting a historical list of items. There are both advantages and disadvantages to that approach.

Once you get current with one of these feeds, it's not a problem with retain expired enabled because you won't lose any new items.

Past podcasts

I have the same exact issue where I only see the latest podcasts. There are many historical podcasts which I can see both on the publishers site and get on my iPod via iTunes. I used the Doggcatcher search to find many of the podcasts I have listened to for years but for some reason only recent ones show up. What about ones from a year ago or three years ago? It works on the iPod.

What you can do is get the RSS url (which you can get from DC) and open it up in a browser. There you'll see what the publisher has in the feed. That should match what you see in DC. If it doesn't, let me know and I'll check it out.

I'm seeing this now - when I subscribe to http://www.cthulhu.me/feeds/posts/default in google reader, I get right back to episode 1.

When I put the URL into a browser, it redriects me to a feedburner page that stops at episode 35. This is also what Doggcatcher is getting.

Any idea why Google Reader is able to get all the way back to episode 1 ? Would be great if Doggcatcher was able to employ the same trickery ! Right now I'm having to use the Google Reader app on Android to listen to the older episodes, which is a massive shame, and not using the nice features of Doggcatcher at all :(

This is because google keeps

This is because google keeps a history of the feed on their servers. I'll probably end up allowing DC to optionally use a greader feed. That would get you the full history in DC.
