Hello,
I really love Doggcatcher - but one thing drives me mad.
I set the prefences so that downloads happen only on WLAN. This is mostly to save batteries.
However, DoggCatcher still starts to poll feeds an show the Keep-Alive Icon, although there is no reason for that (download not allowed and not happening).
Could you please stop DoggCatcher from draining Battery in this Mode? Thank you for your consideration.
Please keep up the good work, the GUI got a lot better and DoggCatcher ist really awesome!
Thank you
Gunther
What I do for maximum control and battery life is turn off all automatic updates, and only update manually.
I set my update interval to something low (12 hrs) and only download on power and wifi. That works pretty well too.
I tried something like that too, but even on my fast Nexus One running Froyo 2.2.2, there's annoying lag when background sync is running. Android still isn't terribly good at background sync, with way too much impact on foreground operation, which is why I prefer manual updating.
(The fundamental Android problem is that the underlying Linux isn't a proper real time operating system [RTOS], notwithstanding all that Google has done. I chuckled at pundits asking why the hell RIM would buy and adopt QNX. You mean other than the fact that QNX is a proper lightweight, efficient RTOS?)
