ScreenOn/Off + streaming and random access

Two questions...

(1) If I don't use the "Keep Screen On" option, then the app will stop playing very soon after the screen goes dark. (The built-in player does this as well.)
If I use the KSO option, then all is well, but indeed, then screen is on.

What I want is that while the media is playing for the screen to go off to save battery life, but still continue streaming.

When streaming with Pandora, I also have to use "Screen AutoLock" that says it will keep the screen on - however, the screen does go off, but still continues to stream in this mode - so it doesn't do what it says, but does what I want.

(2) If I slide the slider during streaming (let's say to 30min of 60min of content) then it jumps ahead only a few mins -- is that because streaming mp3 by itself won't allow this?

thanks

Questions

1 - The kso uses a special kind of lock in android that prevents the device from sleeping. The locks that don't keep the screen on, let some devices go to sleep. I'm not sure what pandora is doing, but streaming audio alone should keep the device awake. It doesn't sound like there's a way to do what you're looking for on your device, all the ones I've tested don't go to sleep when streaming with the screen off. That preference is intended to keep the device from sleeping when feeds are updating and media is downloading.

2 - Yep, some streams aren't seekable with the android media player.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy/S

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy/S on TMobile (Vibrant) - it will go to sleep even when streaming media, unless you choose the KSO option. (Maybe if we ever get Froyo it will fix this??)

Froyo

It might, the media player was swapped out for a different one in froyo, so the implementation completely changed.
