NPR Science Friday Downloading Old Episodes

I joined http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510221 and have it set to auto download 10 items. It downloads new episodes just fine, but it seems like every time it updates feeds, it downloads one episode from around month ago (though which episode varies, sometimes "Slip Into The Secret Life of Eels", "The Past, Locked In Amber" or "'Goat Sucker' May Just Be A Mangy Coyote"). I can't figure out what's wrong. Is there a setting I should change, or is the problem on NPR's end somehow?

I'm using DoggCatcher 1.1.1707 on my Motorola Droid X.

I added to feed and will watch if for a couple days.

What's probably happening is that the item you are seeing get downloaded is being added near the top of the list in the feed (in the first 10), even though it shouldn't be.

You might be able to resolve it by setting the feed sort to date for that feed.

Sort by Date, Newest first, works for me. Thanks.

I've also have this same problem. I've tried many options under Feed Options, such as different sort order, Item Identifier and Make Filenames Unique, but none fix the problem. Once I've listened to all the podscasts, some items in the feed that I've listened, and were flagged as such, will get flagged as new and download again when the feed updates. This is the only feed that does this out of about 10 that I'm currently following, so it seem specific to NPR SciFri cast.

I've also noticed other threads in this forum that indicate the same problem.

Same problem here. Tried all

Same problem here. Tried all the identifiers and sort by date but nothing has worked so far.

Surprised that this isn't a problem for more people especially since scifri is one of doggcatchers most popular feeds.

I'll look into this

I'm going to whip up some code to snag this feed periodically so I can see what's changing in the feed.

Hourly snapshot

I've got something set up to snag the content of this feed every hour. As soon as someone notices this occur, if you could let me know the approximate time, I'll do some comparisons to try to see what's happening.

Number of items

The order of the items is changing.

I think what's happening is that some of the items disappear and then re-appear later because of the order change. That's when DC is deleting them. If your number of items is set higher than the number of items in the feed, then that shouldn't happen.

Can you try setting the number of items to 50? There are 30 items in the feeds now, so that should give some headroom.

Thanks.

Auto download old items - KCRW's Le Show

Similar problem:

Feed: KCRW's Le Show (Harry Shearer)
URL: http://feeds.kcrw.com/kcrw/ls

With Feed Options set to Auto download 3 items, DC keeps downloading old items in January.
This has happened at least 3 times.
Number of items set to Global: 20.
10 items in feed, so "headroom" would not seem to be an issue.

Severity: Medium
Work-around: Change to manual download
Log file: See email report Queue stuck problem (again)

Feed identifer

Yep, this is a different problem than the sci-fri problem.

Can you please try changing the feed identifier to guid. If that doesn't fix it, then the guid must be changing in the feed. In that case, DC has no choice but to remove the old item, add a new one, and download the media. The feed has guids in it so if they aren't changing, the guid feed identifier feed option should work.

Capture feed

I did add an advanced preference in the latest release that saves all the feed xml files to the sdcard. The purpose of this is to watch the changes to the xml to see what's changing.

I haven't had time to analyze this feed but the feature's there if anyone wants to poke around some.
