informative icons

Hi

I think the UI would greatly benefit from some small icons (these could be very small). For example an icon to distinguish done items from items not yet downloaded. This is not clear, unless you hide your done items which is not always desirable.

Another example could be a lock icon next to a podcast set to be kept and not deleted (i know this feature does not exist yet but is greatly missed).

I'm coming over from podtrapper for android and that does both of the above well.

This is my feedback.

Regards

Done versus not downloaded

I'm curious to know more about what you're looking for regarding each of these.

Then way it works now is that new items will have a blue progress bar. After they are downloaded, you'll see a media icon (audio/video). Then when the media file is done, the progress bar will turn gray. So I think what you're looking for can be inferred from the color of the progress bar. Is there something I'm missing that you are looking to see?

Lock - so how would this work? Would you select an item and 'lock' it and from that point forward, that item and its media will not be removed from the feed under any circumstances?

Thanks for the feedback.

colorblindness!

One thing having the information available via text/icon is it would make it easier for people with colorblindness to distinguish between different states. For instance, blue/green colorblind people might not be able to tell the difference between done and new.

In handicapped accessible UI design, it's unacceptable to have color be the only way to infer a piece of information. Color may be used to allow people who can distinguish between colors to get a piece of information faster, but a piece of text or an icon should also be available for those who need it.

It's been a while since I wore my UI design hat, so I haven't been thinking about DC's interface in terms of handicapped accessibility. As a beta tester, I probably should have mentioned this sooner. Sorry. :(

Colors

As a part of the row re-design, the progress bar will not be there when the item is new or done, but we will only differentiate between these two by color. I'll need to think about how to do this.

I think I've got all the spots covered to use auditory cues for visually impaired, but hadn't considered this before.

Colour Consistency

On a related note, it'd be nice if some consistency could be restored with regard to colour-coding. Orange is supposed to signify 'in progress', but the progress bar these days is highlighted in green. But green on the menus signifies that the episode is complete.

I know I've pestered you about this before but... well, it used to make sense and be consistent. And it isn't anymore, unfortunately.

Colors

Where is it that you are seeing green on the menus?

The plan is this for colors
New - blue
In progress - green
Done - grey

Not all places at the moment match this, it will get better in the next release (hopefully) where I've redone all the rows in all the lists. I think in the version you have the progress bars turn dark green for done, which is resolved in the ui work I'm doing now...the progress bars will only show when it's in progress.

If you still see any spots where it inconsistent after the release with the row re-design, let me know so I can get it all wrapped up.

Thanks.

More about colours...

The green on the menus can be seen on the mini progress bar which is shown for each episode in a feed. Admittedly, it's not the same lime green on as used on the big progress bar; it's a dark green.

The colour scheme *I'm* seeing here is like this:
new - blue
in progress - orange (with grey for the parts of the bar that haven't been covered yet)
done - dark green

The colours on the main feeds menu match this. For each feed there's a blue number for how many new episodes you have, and an orange number for how many in progress episodes you have.

The only part of the colour scheme that doesn't match this is the main progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

It sounds like the scheme for the bottom progress bar is what you'd like to replicate for the entire app. In that case, the numbers on the main feed list need changing, as do the mini progress bars.

Exactly

Yep, in the next release the mini-progress bars match the main progress bar (green) and the numbers on the feed screen match up too.
