"Charlotte Talks" Podcast Problem

I'm having a problem with this podcast:

http://wfae.org/wfae/rss/charlottetalks_audio.xml

All podcasts are showing up as 14 seconds long, which wouldn't be a huge problem except that they are usually about 51 minutes long, and I lose the ability to pick back up where I left off if I don't finish the podcast in one listening session. I also can't jump forward and back through the podcast.

The files that are downloaded via Doggcatcher also have the same playback problems through the built-in Android media player.

As a test, I downloaded a podcast from this feed manually on my windows PC, then transferred the file to my SD card via USB. That file plays just fine on the android phone with the built-in media player and via Doggcatcher.

I did a little more research,

I did a little more research, and need to revise my troubleshooting notes.

There are 2 files that are available if you drill into this RSS feed:

This file works fine on the Android phone (available via an MTU playlist file):
http://66.225.205.104//CT20101025.mp3

This file does NOT work ok in ANY player on the Android:
http://66.225.205.104//CT20101025pc.mp3

The second file is what the RSS feed uses, and it's encoded at a different bitrate and sample rate (64kbps/44kHz mono) than the file that works (32kbps/22kHz mono).

Media enclosure

So the publisher probably has the pc file as the first media enclosure in the feed, so that's the one the DC uses.

I have an issue on the todo list to make it possible to select which enclosure to use when there are multiple - http://mantis.snoggdoggler.com/view.php?id=478

I'll add a reference in it to this post.

But why does the

But why does the CT20101025pc.mp3 file not play properly on the Android? Why doesn't Android show the correct file duration for this mp3? Can you confirm the same playback problems with this file?

Android media

The audio encoding parameters can have an affect on compatibility with android.
