General thoughts from a new user

I've just started using Doggcatcher and find it a great application. Keep it up!

I've added a few posts in the Feature Requests forum for things that would make Doggcatcher even better, especially for people with many podcast subscriptions (I have 60+). Things like some global options, sorting options and so on. I won't rehash them here since they are already in the proper forum. However, I DID want to add this post congratulating you on the program.

I have one question, though. What are your plans when you go out of beta and/or when the Android Market allows for-pay apps? Will DoggCatcher stay free, or will you go commercial? Or perhaps offer 2 versions?

I ask this for 2 reasons. First of all, to know what to expect in the future from DoggCatcher (I'm not opposed to paying for great software, but I DO like to know what the deal is going to be), and because I've just registered as an Android developer and am curious as to the commercial opportunities that can bring.

Oh, and one more thing. When entering these entries, several times I got the message "The answer you entered for the CAPTCHA was not correct" and it asked me to re-enter it. However, in that screen I don't get the image for the CAPTCHA, I get a broken link icon. I have to go back to the Forum, go to Add Topic again and re-enter the post. Perhaps you could fix that?

Thanks and, again, congratulations!

I have had the same problem

I have had the same problem with the CAPTCHA.

60 podcasts is A LOT!! Perhaps you can share some of your favorites? There is a podcast discussion I created to recommend favorites.

CAPTCHA problem fixed with

CAPTCHA problem fixed with the new system. I like that I can CTRL C and CTRL V, so long as I keep the right mouse button pressed and delete any spaces.

Yep, let's see how this works. It was an easy fix, so I can spend time on what you really want me to be working on.

Pay vs free

More than likely, DC will turn into a pay app. I really don't know any more details than that right now. The developers are a bit in the dark about what our options are now. What I expect is for google to make an announcement about how it will work and we'll have a short period of time to scramble and prepare for the switch.

We currently don't know how we'll be able to support the migration from free apps to pay apps, in terms of data migration, or any other technical details.

This free-only period is a great opportunity for people to use fully functioning software to see if it meets their needs. By the end, it should be much easier to decide if the applications are worth what the developers decide to charge. It has given me a great opportunity to see what users want in the software. Hopefully I have been able to improve the software to the point that fulfills a need, and also that users feel confident that the software will continue improve and all attempts will be made for it to function properly.

I am glad to hear that you are a registered developer. I think there are some great opportunities for developers on Android...just don't get any crazy ideas about writing a Podcatcher :-) I have been extremely pleased with the platform and even more so with the users. Best of luck to you.
