Apple headset does not work on Verizon Fascinate

I am a refugee from iPhone world (boo!) and trying to control podcasts with my Apple headset.

Headset controls work fine with the standard Music Player (which forgets the spot in the podcast), but do not work with Doggcatcher. It does not react at all.

I am running 2.1 on Verizon Fascinate (Galaxy S). I tried with 2 different Apple headsets, so the headset is not defective.

Any ideas?

Bind to headset

Do you have the bind to headset preference enabled?

Bind and unbind

Just in case I tried binding and not binding - does not work either way.

2.1 headset binding

The 2.1 and earlier devices had a different way of binding to the headset, where each app set a priority. The one with the highest priority got the buttons. There was a phone maybe a year ago that had the priority for the music app set higher than any other so no other apps could use the buttons. The symptoms are the same as you are seeing.

Anyone else with a Fascinate having this problem?

Fix 2.1 headset binding

Is there a way to fix the headset binding priorities without having to root the phone?

Binding / root

I don't think so. The api only let's us set a priority but we can't affect the priorities of other apps, so if they're higher, DC is out of luck.
