How about a more specific scheduler?
Hi , great application. One thing though, how about a scheduler of some sort? I know there is the "download on WiFi" feature, but what about a scheduler in which I can specify exact times? This would mean I could set the app to download, say between 4am and 9am, which is the off peak download period specified by my ISP.
I'll probably do some kind of integration with one or more third party apps for this...like tasker or locale. Those apps have a much stronger ability for that sort of thing, I'll just need to provide the hooks into DC so you can trigger events from those apps.
I do have an issue to do this integration scheduled for 'soon'.
Thanks for the feedback.
My app of choice for this type of thing is Setting Profiles. I haven't used the feature, but I know it includes the ability to start a program when a profile starts, and kill the program when the profile ends. If you use this functionality along with the DC preference of Update Feeds on Start, you might be able to simulate a DC scheduler.
Cool, I'll take a look at each of these once that works starts.
I updated the issue with a ref to this post.
Any 3rd party scheduler would be great. The wifi on my OG Droid is sometimes flaky. Occasionally DC will start downloading podcasts, only to lose wireless connection mid-transfer. The wifi will still show as connected, but no apps can access the internet. This is no fault of DC, and I know this is also a rare case scenario that will not affect most users. However, if tasker integration existed, I could mitigate the problem myself by telling tasker to toggle the wifi and try updating feeds 3 or 4 times in the early morning.
Funny you should post about this. I was just creating a poll to see what people wanted next and tasker is on the list. Assuming tasker is near the top of the rank, it shouldn't be too far off.
In addition to what you have in the Mantis issue would like to see some way to play video not just audio and ways to query number of podcasts playable by feed or by audio vs. video.
What I want to create with Tasker is a way to say when I put it in my dock to automatically play the first video in my list of videos. If there are no videos then play audio.
I'm not sure if android supports return values on intents between apps. If it does, we could probably do what you're asking by having a play intent that takes a media type (audio/video) and then has a return value that is set with whether or not a media file was started.
I would really like to have a setting that when I get to my house wifi I could sync the podcasts. I use locale for this. Would gladly pay a few bucks for an add in.
