A few questions to make sure I have this thing configured correctly

Ok, a quick overview of what Im looking to do and what I have.

Just bought a Galaxy S from AT&T and that is what Im running my just purchased copy of Doggcatcher on.

I have 13 audio podcasts I listen to during the week. Here is how I want Doggcatcher to work...

Every day, I want it to check for new podcasts (1). I want it to download the latest & newest episode unless it has already been listened to (2). After the episode has been listened to, I want it automatically removed / deleted from my phone and not to be downloaded again (3). I dont want any episodes I have manually downloaded to be removed from the device until I have 'listened' to it, but I still want the newest episodes for each podcast to be downloaded regardless of whether I have listened to any older episodes currently stored on my device. (4).

(1) - The Begin downloads only when... On Wifi checked will not allow podcasts to download. I even tried rebooting the device and it didnt resolve this issue. I had to uncheck it in order to get it to download anything (and hopefully it used my wifi connection and not my 3g connection).
(2) - Auto downloads is set to 1 in the general /global options screen and all my feeds are set to use the global setting. I assume this will only download the latest episode and will not delete any older episodes I have not yet listened to. In effect, I will download every new episode even if I get backlogged on a particular podcast a few episodes, while at the same time, not deleting any older episodes I havent yet listened to, right?
(3) - Auto Delete Policy is set to 'All done items'. I assume 'done' means 'listened to'? If this is the case, perhaps the wording on this setting could be changed to 'Listened to'.
(4) - I have a couple of podcasts I ended up getting a little backlogged, Im a couple episodes behind. I went in and manually downloaded the episodes I havent yet listened to but I want to make sure Im continuing to download any new episode that comes out from this same feed continues to download without deleting the older episodes I manually downloaded (until I have listened to them, at which point it can delete them).

Alright, I numbered the above so that it would be easier to respond point by point. In short, do I have this setup to behave in the manner I explained in the 1rst major paragraph?

A couple of bugs/feature requests...

1. As mentioned in (1), it doesnt seem to download when the download only on Wifi option is set. I did read the previous mention of this on your forums and it didnt seem to make a difference regarding rebooting the phone.
2. Reword 'All done items' in the Auto Delete Policy to 'All listened to items' if this is really what this option means. The word 'done' has several possible meanings in the context of this software and I think the rewording would clarify this setting.
3. I want to be able to specify a time of day that my podcast subscriptions are refreshed and downloaded. Right now, I have no idea when it is doing this, only that it is set to check once a day. If it is based on exactly 24 hours after I installed the program, I will want to change that as I normally am at work and do not have access to a wifi network at that time of day.

You have to disable the

You have to disable the 'download on wifi' setting in the global options. Its a bug either in the Doggcatcher software or in Android that the phone is in fact on wifi.

Feed config

1 - This will only allow downloads to start when the wifi is connected

2 - It sounds like you need to set your auto-downloads to the maximum number of items you want to have auto-downloaded for each feed. This setting has no affect on deleting of media. If it's set to one, no more auto-downloads will occur once there is one already downloaded...I'm not sure this is what you want.

3 - Then set the auto-delete policy to done (as you have)...this will only ever delete items that are done regardless of whether they are downloaded manually or automatically.

4 - This depends on your auto-download setting. DC won't auto-download once the number of media files reaches the auto-download value.

questions

1 - Check the message on the download queue screen to see what's preventing the downloads from starting.
2 - Done - This should have one meaning throughout. When you've read a news article, flagged an item as done, or reached the end of a media file...the item will be marked done. Which place are you thinking of that doesn't match?
3 - The timer actually starts when the app starts, so it will be 24 hrs from then. I do have an issue to make this work on a schedule. The 'download only on wifi' will prevent downloads from occurring when you are at work and not on wifi.

I think I've got it all, if I missed anything, let me know.

This page covers the feed options a little more than I've explained here.

Alrighty, so unless Im

Alrighty, so unless Im completely missing something (and I very could be, Ive only had this phone for two days and havent had a chance to play with it much - add to that this is my first droid OS phone), the download only on wifi is in fact broken as far as I can tell.

I configured the phone to use my internal wifi router (with my 63 character password - that was not fun entering on the phone as it contains characters, numbers, upper and lower case letters) and I now have a little 'radar' in the upper right of my screen as well as the 3G icon.

I am unable to specifically verify that it is connected to my home wifi because I cant seem to find the notification / setting window that displays the network details in the android system but I am pretty sure I am connected via wifi because I can see the radar icon (which is the same icon the iphone uses for wifi connectivity) and Im pretty sure it is my home network because all but one of the half circles that are in the radar symbol are lit.

Long story made even longer, if I enable the download only on wifi, it refuses to download. As soon as I disable it, it begins to download. What makes this really confusing is that it seems really fast for downloading off the 3g network so I think it is in fact using my wifi network and the toggle is backwards in the doggcatcher code. I could however be very mistaken because this is also my first 3g phone, Im coming from an iphone 2g which is terribly slow when it comes to network service from the cell company.

Wifi connection

Search on 'wifi connection' in the top right. There are lots of discussions about this. You may be experiencing the same thing that the others are...sounds pretty much the same.

I had one other thought that I forgot to ask...

How can I force the software to automatically download at a different time? Do I need to uninstall the software and reinstall it at the time I want it to update? If this is the solution, its absurd to say the least but Ill do it.

Also, can I redownload the app from the marketplace without being billed again? I already paid once and Im hoping the marketplace is account based and allows you to redownload already paid for apps for free...

Timer

The timer starts when you start the app, so you can just exit the app and restart it.

You can download any app purchased from the market in the market download as many times as you need without any additional charge.

As I commented in the

As I commented in the "scheduled update times" thread at http://www.snoggdoggler.com/node/456, it might be interesting to let people set the "baseline" time of day in addition to the update interval. You could say "Every 8 hours starting at 7:42 AM" to be sure you'd get updates just before your morning and evening commutes. (It's better to pick a random minute instead of the top of the hour, so you don't hammer feed sites at the same instant as everybody else.)

If it's too much work to make this configurable (and thus have to write a configuration UI), just hard-code it to start at midnight (plus or minus a random 5-10 minutes) instead of "when the app was started." At least then the update times would be predictable, within the fuzz factor.

Scheduled updates

Yep, I've had quite a few requests for that. I just moved it up to a sooner release.
