BOL (CNET) podcasts show up as news article
Summary: CNET is aware of the issue and they are working on it
I have noticed that occasionally some of my podcasts (it seems to be specifically cnet podcasts) show up as if they are news feeds rather than audio podcasts. It doesn't happen all the time, and it seems as though I'll occasionally have items in the feed change from downloadable podcasts to "news items". This is quite frustrating. I can't seem to figure out why it does this.
I have seen this on both Gadgettes (http://feeds.feedburner.com/cnet/gadgettes) and Buzz Out Loud (http://buzzoutloudpodcast.cnet.com/). Any idea why this might be happening?

Happened with my on Buzz out load today.
Yep, I'm seeing it on Buzz Out Loud as well. I came here hunting for a solution. I also saw previously valid podcasts turn into articles...I've only been using this for about a week, but it seemed to be working and then something changed.
Here's the feed for bol - http://feeds.feedburner.com/cnet/buzzoutloud?format=xml
Try clicking on that in your browser.
If you are using firefox you should see one grey box for each item. They will have links to mp3 files.
If you are using ie, you should see red play now links. There should also be one per item.
You'll notice that some items are missing the enclosures (the things I described in firefox/ie). The items that are missing those are most likely the items that are showing up as news items in DC.
Why isn`t this happening in another podcasts player I tried? Exactely the same feeds show up correctly.
The gadgettes feed is malformed. They aren't declaring any media in the some of the items, those are the ones you are seeing displayed as news items. Item 168, 166, 164, and some older ones have this problem. They have links to the media in the description.
The bol feed looks ok. I checked it in DC and visually inspected the feed.
If you are seeing the items change from audio to news or the other way around, then they are changing the feed. It doesn't seem like this would be very common, especially with older items. I would think they would stay the same.
I'm a new doggcatcher user - I'm having this same issue with Buzz Out Loud on a consistent basis. Doesn't seem to be any issues with any other podcatcher program...
same happens here... luckily DoggCatcher downloaded the episodes before they turned into News Articles and I've been able to play the episodes by browsing the enclosures folder to get the mp3 icon...
Couldn't it be possible to put some kind of override for downloaded items to stop updating (that in a sense would stop the conversion from an audio podcast to a news article).

Well, I sent the kind folks at CNET/BoL a quick note about this, and they have already replied that they made an adjustment to correct the issue. So hopefully it is fixed now, keep your eye on it.
I just checked the feed and it's not correct yet, but as long as they know about the problem, it should just be a matter of time.
Thanks for letting them know.
I'll ping them again.
I tested this feed again (just to be sure it's not DC) with a PC based podcatcher (Juice) and it's only finding media for the 3 or 4 items that are properly formed. So DC is showing the same behavior as Juice.
The guys at BoL are extremely responsive, I'm very impressed so far. Of course, I wish the problem was already fixed, but they've made a long post acknowledging the issue and describing what they are doing to address it:

Here's hoping they get it sorted out, I love listening to these guys.
