update only at a specific time (and/or only at night)
It would be nice to only have it update at night (so it is ready for me in the morning). I really dont need it eating up resources during the day.
This could be achieved perhaps by one of the following manners:
1) a check box that says "only update between 12am-6am". This is probably the easiest. When checked, Doggcatcher just follows its regular schedule set in auto update, but at the time of alarm, add the check if(! at_night) then bail. One would of course have to set the auto update to something <=6 hours to allows this to work properly though.
2) a "update only at XX:XX" option. more UI work required though...
3) integrate with something like "Locale", where you turn off auto updates, and then with a locale pluggin, you can specify the time to update - NewsRob does this.
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
There's an existing issue for this. I'm really interested in the Locale integration. That looks like a great way to provide very flexible scheduling.

What you might want to try if you have wifi at home is to set the download only on wifi option. That way you'll get all updated while you're at home on wifi. If updates occur during the day, the new items will just sit in the queue until you get back on wifi.
Thanks for the post.
Hi Eric, I know there is already a couple of issues for update - download time scheduling but thought I'd put My hand up as needing a feature like this.
It would be very handy to have Doggcatcher do an update & download in the middle of the night while connected to My home WiFi.
At the moment I'm finding Myself starting the downloads manually when I wake up in the middle of the night & hoping they are ready to go when I get up in the morning and run out the door for the train.
Most ISPs in the country I'm in have Peak / Off Peak download times, So I need to start the downloads during My off peak download period and save my valuable peak download period for other activities.
Keep up the great work,
Cheers,
C_H
I have this in the soon category which means not in the next two releases, but hopefully soon after that.
I've come to see that non-US carriers structure the plans a bit differently than in the US and I'm going to need to add the features suited for these types of situations.
Thanks for posting.
I totally want a "scheduled update" feature as well.
If you do this, please consider allowing more than one time of day for updating. I'd want to set up two daily updates, one before the morning commute and before the evening.
Here's another way to do this: in the Feed Update Interval, if I could set a baseline time of day and then set "Every four hours" then I would get six updates per day, but I would know when they were going to happen. I could arrange the baseline time so I'd get updates "just before I wake up" and "just before I leave work." It's wasteful to set 1- or 2-hour updates, getting 12 or 24 updates per day, just to be sure those two key ones aren't too old.
In the UI you could suggest that people NOT choose a common time like the top of the hour, or you could add a multi-minute random "fuzz factor," so people's phones don't all hammer popular feed sites at the exact same time...
