Add a Feed

There are a few different ways to add Feeds to DoggCatcher.

Recommendations

DoggCatcher can compare your feed subscriptions to other users with similar subscription to recommend feeds that you may like.

DoggCatcher Top Feeds

These are the top 50 feeds subscribed to by users ranked by total number of subscriptions.

Other Popular Feeds

These are pre-selected feeds that may be of general interest to users.

Search feeds

Enter search keywords and press the search button. You can enter more than one word separated by spaces.

Searches are conducted on three different search engines:

• DoggCatcher - feeds used by other DoggCatcher users
• DigitalPodcast - keywords are searched for in either the title or description of the feed
• Google - Google's news/podcast search engine

Press on a row in the search results to add the Podcast.

RSS URL

All Feeds have an URL that is the address that podcatcher software like DoggCatcher uses to obtain information about the Feed and the list of Items. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to find the URL for one or more of your Feeds.

Finding the RSS URL

If you are unable to locate the feed you are looking for, this is a way to enter the direct address to the feed.

It is usually easiest to go to the website of the feed and look for a link to the RSS feed. It should look something like this - "http://leoville.tv/podcasts/twit.xml". The http:// part is required and the URL's nearly always end in ".xml".

If you are having problems with this, it may be helpful to click on the link to the RSS feed, then view the source of the web page to be sure it looks like a valid RSS feed. You'll know it's ok if it contains one of these near the top <channel> and some of these <item> throughout.

If it is a FeedBurner page, long press on the "View Feed XML" link to get the RSS URL.

Once you have found the right URL, copy it to the clipboard by long pressing on the link TO the URL.

OPML Import

OPML is a format that is useful for importing and exporting lists of Podcasts. DoggCatcher can import Podcasts from an OPML file. Detailed instructions are displayed in DoggCatcher when you press on the menu item.

There is currently a limitation of only one level of depth in the outline tags. So any outline tags nested underneath the top level outline tag are ignored. A feature request exists for this.

Automatic feed creation

If you visit a feed in the Android browser and the feed contains special tags describing the feed version, DoggCatcher will launch and automatically create the feed. This does not work for all feeds.
