DETAILS:
DoggCatcher Version: 1.1.1851
Device: Google Nexus One
Android Build: FRG83D / 2.2.1
Carrier: Vodafone UK (but irrelevant, as I only download over WiFi)
SUMMARY: Autoplay in Category playlist doesn't play in the order listed
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Set up a category (the one I know I've had a problem with has 2 feeds)
2. Sort feeds oldest first
3. Enable Auto Play
4. Tick Jump to oldest unread
5. Select Category playlist
6. Play starting with oldest podcast (which is at the top of the list)
WHAT HAPPENS: At the end of the oldest podcast, Auto Play starts to play the newest podcast.
WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: Auto Play should play the next oldest podcast, in sequence
FREQUENCY: 100%
SEVERITY: Important
I've only just started using Doggcatcher, as Categories are crucial to the way I use a podcatcher/player, so I haven't tried any of this in a non-category playlist.

The playlist plays from the bottom up, I know this is not obvious. I haven't been able to figure out a way to make this easier for people yet.
So I think you want to play the oldest first, so you can leave the sort as default (or set to newest first). That puts the newest items at the top. Then the playlist will start from the bottom (the oldest).
Also, you can skip the 'oldest unread'...that's just for news. It scrolls the screen down to the oldest item.
Thanks for the prompt reply Eric.
I've remembered that (despite what I said in my original post) the same thing seems to happen in Feed view too (for a single feed in the same category). Would you expect that as well?
I'll try the workaround, but I really do prefer to see things listed oldest at the top (particularly when listening in the correct order is important), so for me it really *is* a workaround, not a solution*. Also, if I do this, will the focus be on the oldest podcast (i.e. bottom of the list) when I select the Feed / Playlist category?
*In fact, I'd really like a global sort option for Oldest first, to save me having to set it for each individual feed ... although given the above, I won't be able to use it unless the Playlist can be made to play them in that order too.
Thanks
Julie
Update:
Tried sorting the two feeds in the category to Newest first, and then from Feed view, played the bottom podcast in the view, and skipped to the next item ... and it played the new item in a different Playlist category (the one that was selected in the Playlist view), so although this behaviour (being able to switch the playlist) is potentially useful, it's not intuitive that it plays something other than something from the screen/view I was looking at. Perhaps the solution would be to automatically switch from Feed view to the Playlist view when starting to play the next item in the Playlist? (But only as an option. No doubt many people don't use Playlist view at all, and presumably it doesn't arise in PlayMode view.)
Then I tried it from Playlist category view, and saw the feeds sorted in feed / date order (oldest first - so I now have no idea what's governing the sort order for that), and it played in the correct order (i.e. oldest first).
Tested by skipping to next podcast, which brings up another request: It would be useful to be able to Unhide Done items from the Playlist, rather than having to go back to the Feed to do it. (I needed to go back and flag the skipped episode as New.)
Thanks again
Julie
The audio screen is *the* place to go to see what order media will play. That is where the auto-play draws from.
So you can make changes to the feeds/categories as you have been, and then go to the audio screen to see how those changes affect the play order. Keep in mind that the order of the feeds can be changed and affects the order of the playlist also.
