The app has not been updated since 2018. Is it still being maintained?
There is a long list of wishes and small issues that continues growing.
Really live the app and would like to continue using it. Nothing like it yet out there.

yep, i know it's been a while. i don't have any immediate plans for updates, but we are still figuring out where to go from here with the app.
thanks for posting
Have you thought about open sourcing the project then?
I have very much appreciated Doggcatcher's great features over the years. However I really hope the developers find time to modernize it. More and more minor issues are cropping up as Android evolves and I am reluctantly looking into alternative podcast apps. While I have zero programming skills, open sourcing the project could be a solution to get things moving.
I just came here to report two bugs but it looks like this is abandonware.
If I'm reading between the lines, the project maintainer is politely nudging us to move onto another app.
Thanks anyway for your contributions.
What issues are you experiencing?
I wonder how many share my view - I paid for Doggcatcher years ago, and I would happily pay $5 to $10 per year if the app was updated regularly, with modernization, features, etc.
I also see more minor issues cropping up in feeds that were previously stable.
I see people are asking to "modernize" the app, but I'm asking PLEASE don't change the look and feed.
It's excellent as it is and the UI doesn't need to change.
I agree - the UI doesn't need to change.
It's the app on my phone that I use most by a very long way, more even than email or farceache
.
I have been using Doggcatcher for 10+ years. It's really always been the podcast app I always came back to. I have gotten my money out of the app. I too would pay for continuing support or like to see it open sourced. I do have coding experience and would like to make some minor enhancements.
I would be happy to support the project with an annual or monthly subscription.
Doggcatcher is still the best podcatcher on the Android platform, and I've spent a lot of time trying to replicate the UX elsewhere without success.
I too would pay for the app again or a yearly subscription to keep DoggCatcher updated and the awesome app it could still be.
Everyone! Thanks for posting, I've forwarded your offers of additional support regarding the app with a annual or monthly subscription options to the developer
Please, move the current code base to a new, subscription funded App. Some of us will sign-on immediately. Add a few fixes and frequently requested features, and many more will sign up as well. Just be sure to update the current App-Store entry to reference the new App. Thank You,
Please, please, please resurrect this app! I have tried other podcatchers but none have the capabilities or ease of use as Doggcatcher. Unfortunately, it's getting to the point that it's unusable and I may be forced to change.
I wouldn't normally ask this on the App Publisher's own Forum, but if the project is going to be abandoned anyway, where better to ask about alternatives?
My fellow DoggCatcher fans are probably looking for some of the same features I am.
Specifically: Automatic, and highly customizable feed management:
- only download on wifi
- do not fetch new when available space is less than (n)
- keep last (x) episodes.
My use of DoggCatcher is sort of like a news stand or magazine rack (that keeps a few back issues). I have 50+ subscriptions, but only regularly listen to about ten.
That is, until I'm driving across no-mans-land with no cell service and slim pickings on FM radio, then I'll maybe give a listen to that 'new' podcast I subscribed to three months ago.
Without the space and feed management tools of DoggCatcher, I would quickly run out of space.
So, if any of you have gone shopping for an alternative. Please, let me know what you've found.
To DoggCatcher creator: Thank you for a wonderful app. I do hope you choose to continue maintaining it. If you do, I'd be happy to support that effort with a new purchase/subscription.
As another long time (10+ years) user, and having tried just about every other podcast app out there, I too am willing to pay an ongoing subscription for Doggcatcher if it would help get it updated. I recognize that open-sourcing isn't the easiest thing in the world either, especially considering the existing (unupdated) app is likely still bringing in some revenue. It would be great, though, if some way could be found to keep this app functional, because like others have said I keep coming back to it. Nothing else seems to be able to (or want to) replicate the presentation and playback ordering the Doggcatcher uses.
I started to write to ask why you occasionally send me ads in Spanish, a language I sometimes wish I'd studied, instead of French. But I found this thread, and now I'm grateful that Dogg Catcher isn't sending me nothing but Spanish ads.
And I'm grateful that only the occasional feed gets stuck at replaying the same episode, under different names.
Please count me as another user who will be happy to pay to support you. I lean heavily on podcasts, so I can stand my part-time janitorial job. I can't afford streaming data, so I really need to be able to download episodes on home WiFi, and play offline at work or while driving.
I'm avoiding news for health reasons, so I can't listen to radio while driving, and changing CDs is dangerous.
Thanks for doing so much for this app. I tell everyone about it.
I realise this is an old thread, but figured it couldn't hurt to bump it.
I'm another long-term user (10+ years). I've been very happy with the app despite the lack of updates as it was mostly very mature and bug-free. Finally motivated to move on last week due to multiple random instances of previous old episodes being marked as new. I'd come back in a second if development started again, and would be happy to pay a modest subscription for a supported product.
Adam
I've been using DC longer than I can remember.
Came here looking for Cloud Sync ... maybe I'll need to find another podcast app to provide that.
Doh!
