Bluetooth skipping is unbearable

I'm on a Samsung S9+, and I've been using DoggCatcher for over 2 years. Within the past month, during playback of any podcast to multiple Bluetooth devices, it's full of popping and skipping to the point it's impossible to listen. I've tried phone reboots but haven't tried an uninstall/reinstall because I don't want to rebuild my collection of podcasts. Is there anything I can try to prevent the popping and skipping? I can watch YouTube or stream Amazon Music through my phone and have zero issues with popping/skipping, so I'm fairly certain it's not my headphones.

Audio playback problems

See the "Audio playback problems" post under "Playback Issues" http://www.doggcatcher.com/AudioPlaybackProblems and switch to Google’s Android experimental media player for 6.0+/7.0+/8.0 and up devices

Silly me - I wish I'd

Silly me - I wish I'd searched here first!! I was having the same unbearable skipping and stuttering issues on my Samsung A8 phone. However, the issues were coincident with new phone, new bluetooth headset, and potentially failing SD card. I troubleshot many other issues before making the change to the experimental marshmallow player yesterday - I've had no skips in the last 24-hrs. Yay!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the marshmallow player is the final solution as the stuttering was not consistent - sometimes it wouldn't happen for a day or two. It wasn't predictable.

The experimental player

The experimental player stopped the skipping - yay! However now the home screen widget play/fwd/rwd buttons rarely work - I can tap the widget and it brings up the full app though. The app also randomly stops playing but I have yet to figure out if there is a pattern. I did try all the setting suggestions in the link above with no widget function success.

Bluetooth playback is "jittery" for short periods

I've been using Doggcatcher for years with no problems. For about a month now the playback over my bluetooth speaker gets jittery for short periods. I have tried several different bluetooth speakers and the problem remains for all of them. Today I loaded a podcast (Megyn Kelly) in an audio editing app called Audio Evolution and the playback is fine there. Does this mean the problem is in the playback mechanism normally used in the Doggcatcher app? Any Ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Oh, I see!

I was looking through some of the settings on my Galaxy S8 this morning. I came across a listing of apps to be put to sleep when running in the background. Doggcatcher was on this list. I remembered that a few weeks ago some part of the android system was warning me that Doggcatcher was using too much battery when in the background. It suggested that I force it to sleep when in the background. I resisted this at first but the system kept bringing this battery problem to my attention. I finally gave in and said OK put it to sleep if you want. I didn't put this all together until this morning when I removed Doggcatcher from that sleep list. Now no more "jitter". Thank you Dan, for this excellent advise.
