In the last few weeks, Doggcatcher no longer plays video podcasts that it used to play. Audio files still play fine. I store media files on the microSD card (Samsung Galaxy S7, Android 8.0). The error message is "This episode cannot be played: file://storage/7910-86EC/Android/data/...... exposed beyond app through Intent.getData()". This has happened repeatedly with various files. Anyone know what's wrong?
Verify the current SD card isn't the problem by trying another one (New Prefered)
@WayneC: Thanks for the suggestion. The SD card is fine though.
This is a bug, I just created an issue for this - http://mantis.doggcatcher.com/view.php?id=2258
It only seems to happen when you are playing videos in the external player. When you play via the internal player, it's working fine for me.
Thanks for letting me know about the problem.
@eric: Thank you very much for recognizing the bug. You're right, I just tried and the internal video player does work. But I hope a fix for external players can come soon, because the internal player is a bit lame. (For one thing, no variable-speed playback (very important to me) and various other fancy controls.)
Try switching to Google’s Android experimental media player for 6.0+/7.0+/8.0 and up device first ....see the "Audio playback problems" post under "Playback Issues" http://www.doggcatcher.com/AudioPlaybackProblems
The player features a native variable-speed playback
@WayneC: Thanks for that great idea. I did switch to Google's Marshmallow media player and rebooted my phone... Still no go. I got the same error message as originally. :-( I guess I'll wait for Eric's bug fix. Meanwhile I'm watching my two video podcasts on Podcast Addict, which is actually quite nice for a free podcast app -- but my heart and my loyalty are still with DoggCatcher!
Sorry...should have realized you meant variable speed playback for video. Android experimental media player only support variable speed for audio playback.
@WayneC: Thanks, your suggestions are appreciated nonetheless. DC plays audio files just fine, including variable speed... but not videos at all with an external player. In the absence of other solutions, I have my workaround for the moment (Podcast Addict), and hope DC will fix the bug soon.
Hi,
I started getting the same error around the same time last year. I started getting this error on my Nexus 6P, at the end of the year I replaced it with a Pixel 3 XL and I get the same error message on the new phone. I use MX Player so I can watch videos at more than 1.0x.
This is what the error looks like:
This episode cannot be played:
file:///storage/emulated/0/DoggCatcher/EpisodeEnclosures/35/specials0340_h264b_640x368_256.mp4 exposed beyond app through Intent.getData()
I have removed all video players and reinstalled them. Nothing worked. I have DoggCatcher version 1.2.4154 and MX Player version 1.10.51
Do you know if there's something I can do on my side? Or should I wait for an updated version of DoggCatcher?
I'd really appreciate any tips.
This is still a bug issue on the DC developer's to do list , see his created bug issue for this - http://mantis.doggcatcher.com/view.php?id=2258

Thanks Wayne.
Thank you, Wayne. And thank you, Eric - I hope you will succeed in fixing this.
