unpausing podcast sometimes results in random length rewind

Sometimes when I unpause my podcast, it starts playing at a seemingly random rewinded timepoint, often 30+ min. The usual and expected scenario is resuming starts off just where I left off minus maybe 5 seconds, but sometimes as stated above, I'll come back to my podcast the next day or several hours later and when I resume I'm way off mark, and end up fiddling around with the time trying to find where I stopped, or just wasting a bunch of time re listening to the same content.

Some other info that may or may not be useful.
-using a nexus 5
-phone is almost never restarted
-doggcatcher is almost always kept active in the background (not closing the app)
-I hit pause and resume within a short time span, like pausing to talk to someone for a min, then the issue does not/has not happened as of yet.
-I did migrate my settings from one phone over to this one

What usually causes this is

What usually causes this is that the android media player doesn't resume to the spot that DC is telling it to. We can confirm this if you send 'report problem' in the dc menu right after it happens, with a note about the approx position that we should have resumed. I can scan the log to see what's happening.

Thanks.
