Archos 5 IT and doggcatcher problem

Hi Eric,

Love your program! It is nice to have the podcast download program on my device! I have use the archos program on my pc for years.. Now it is all on my device!

But i have a question:

When i am playing a podcast (audio) my device goes into sleep mode (after 2 min utes) the podcast stops playing!

When i play a music file on my archos media software it keeps playing when the screen goes off.

Is there a way to handle this? Am i missing something?

Johan

Sleeping

The way it works in android is that we acquire a sleep lock when we are doing something that we want to prevent the device from sleeping. Whenever DC plays media or is doing updates/downloads, it acquires one of those locks.

Is the app that is keeping the device awake an android app? It sounds like you're describing a native archos app, but I'm not familiar enough with the device to know.

Sleeping

Hi Eric,

The problem is that when i use the player inside DC and the archos 5 goes in to sleep mode and the podcast stops playing!

When i give the podcast to the native(external) player of the archos the podcast keeps playing.

Can you give the native player one of those sleeplocks?

Sleep locks

From android, I don't think I'm going to have any influence over the archos player. Actually that sounds like something that needs to get implemented by archos, because what's happening is that DC is requesting a sleep lock but it is getting ignored.

It sounds like a bug because the device supports wake locks but the transitioning of them from android to archos is failing.

Is there a way to check this? I have looked in the settings of DC in my archos and it has the "rights" to request sleep locks!

I think there is a market for your program here! It could be good to check at archos what the posibilities are to get on their app market!

Wakelocks

I was just looking a little more closely at the code and I was mistaken. I am not getting a wakelock when audio is playing because the device never goes to sleep when the audio is playing (at least for non-archos5 users). I do acquire wake locks for other situations where the device would go to sleep if I didn't prevent it.

So I'm pretty sure that the media player itself (I use an embedded android media player) is the one acquiring the lock.

I'm at a loss here as to what to do next. I saw your post on the archos forum, I hope that you get a response there that can give me some indication if it's something I can have an effect on or not.

If you here something there, please let me know.
